Skeletons are world objects in the Fallout Series.
Background[edit]
Skeletons appear as both static and movable environmental objects, representing the remains of humans and creatures. Some skeletons are complete and placed in situational poses, while others appear as individual bones. Many are found near charred remains, inside abandoned homes, or in craters following the Great War.
Gameplay[edit]
Fallout 3[edit]
The Lone Wanderer can pick up skeletons, but not loot them. One may also find skeletons near weapons, ammunition, notes and medical supplies. They may correlate with unmarked quests. Skeletons can also stretch out, they will sometimes fling when interacted with. Several skeletons are encountered outside of the Vault 101 Door, scattered amidst signs pleading for help.[1]
In Point Lookout, the submerged skeleton of a T-Rex can be found underwater, south-southeast of the Coastal Grotto, under a buoy accompanied by a human skeleton with a Lever-Action Rifle. The Museum of History contains another T-Rex skeleton.
The skeleton of Captain Carl Bell, the first human in space on board the Defiance 7, is on display at the Museum of Technology.[2] His remains were donated to the museum by Edwina Bell.[2]
Fallout: New Vegas[edit]
Some skeletons can be found with muscles and tendons still attached and other skeletons are smaller in size than the normal variant.
In Dead Money, the skeletons of Vera Keyes and Frederick Sinclair can be found in the Executive Suites and the Sierra Madre Vault, respectively. Vera's skeleton can be dismembered and wears a unique outfit that can be retrieved. Sinclair's skeleton (called "The Founder's Remains") acts as a container, although it contains nothing.
In Honest Hearts, the skeleton of Randall Clark, the Survivalist, can be found at the top of the Red Gate. Follows-Chalk describes "the place where the little ones fell" which is a Scout bus that he describes as being full of small bones.[3]
In Old World Blues, Y-17 Trauma Override Harnesses, automated suits that house deceased test subjects, can be found around Big MT. The skeleton of Dr. Calis can be found clothed in Scientist Scrubs, and one can search this skeleton. No spinal cord connects with the rest of the body due to the body being that of a non-skeletal corpse, combined with a skull.
Fallout 4[edit]
Skeletons can be found all across the Commonwealth, ranging from the remains of U.S. Army soldiers and citizens. They can be moved both physically but cannot be searched. There is also a large skeleton of a whale on the collapsed second floor of the Oceanarium in Far Harbor.
Fallout 76[edit]
Skeletons cannot be interacted with or searched. Some are wearing specific outfits, such as Vault 76 Jumpsuit. Skeletons can be moved by nearby explosions, or by walking into them. Large bones have been unearthed near the blade of the Rockhound in the Ash Heap, inside the Hopewell Cave, and near the Interloper inside of Lucky Hole Mine.
A skeleton is found in the hole northeast of the Golf Club, protruding out of the dirt, which may be holding a Nuka-Cola Quantum. There is a 50% chance that the skeleton will not be holding anything, a 37.5% chance of it holding an empty Nuka-Cola bottle, and a 12.5% chance of it being a Quantum.[4]
Fallout Television Series[edit]
In S1E1 - The End, Lucy MacLean sees several skeletons on the ground outside of Vault 33. When Lucy explores a dilapidated house in The Wilds, she finds a large bottle of Vault-Tec Plan D cyanide capsules on a table surrounded by several skeletonized corpses.

Behind the Scenes[edit]
In the real world, decay causes skeletons to disintegrate and fall apart as opposed to maintaining their shape. In the Fallout Series, they are seen posed and intact as a mechanic utilized to aid in storytelling.
