Robert Joseph MacCready is a character in Fallout 3, Fallout 4, Fallout Shelter Online, and Fallout: The Board Game. He is the mayor of Little Lamplight in Fallout 3 and a possible companion in Fallout 4.
Background[edit]
Capital Wasteland[edit]
Robert MacCready was born in the Capital Wasteland.[1] He grew up as orphan and lived at Little Lamplight,[2][1] a settlement populated entirely of children, where adults were barred entry.[3] At the age of ten, MacCready learned how to use sniper rifles, developing into a skilled sharpshooter.[4] He served as mayor of Little Lamplight, a position he earned by punching the previous mayor in the face.[5][6]
At sixteen, he left Little Lamplight,[1] wandering and taking odd jobs[7] before settling as a mercernary.[8][9] He met his wife Lucy and told her he was a soldier, fearing he'd lose her if he told the truth. She carved him a toy soldier as a gift.[9] They lived at a homestead and had a child together named Duncan.[10][11] MacCready swore off cursing as a promise to Duncan that he'd clean up his act.[12] After spending a night inside a metro station, Lucy was swarmed by Feral Ghouls and killed. He says that "they were on her before I could even fire a shot" and that it "took everything I had to escape with Duncan in my arms."[13] At their homestead, Duncan contracted an illness that caused a severe outbreak of blue boils with an intense fever.[10] MacCready travelled north to the Commonwealth to search for a cure.[7]
Commonwealth[edit]
In the Commonwealth, MacCready met Sinclair, who told him that his partner broke out in blue boils similar to Duncan's. He informed MacCready about a potential cure being housed at Med-Tek Research and provided him with the building's lockdown security codes.[14] With the lockdown codes, he tried to breach the building, but was nearly killed by Feral Ghouls.[15]
MacCready joined the Gunners when he heard their need for sharpshooters. He says it was the "biggest mistake of my life" and later quit, fearing it was catching up to him. He comments that they "were animals" and "killed anything that moved if it got in their way".[7] MacCready offered his mercenary[8] services in Goodneighbor, saying the town is known to "not to ask too many questions".[16] He made a deal with Hancock and waited for the "caps to roll in."[16] Two of his former Gunner colleagues, Winlock and Barnes, threatened MacCready for operating within their territory, driving away clients due to his prior affiliation with the Gunners.[17]

Quotes[edit]
Fallout 4[edit]
- "And what about you? How do I know I won't end up with a bullet in my back?"

- "Walk a hundred miles if I knew there were a pile of caps waiting for me at the end."

- "Look pal. If you're preaching about the Atom, or looking for a friend, you've got the wrong guy. If you need a hired gun... then maybe we can talk."

- "Let's be careful. No human being would possibly pile books this way."

- "Took everything I had to escape with Duncan in my arms. Maybe it would have been better if we'd died there with her"
- "I never knew you could do that with Mutfruit"
Fallout 3[edit]
- "Of course, I've kept this place going strong for three years. To most of these kids, that makes me Mayor For Fucking Life. Fine by me, I say."

- "Don't take another step, or we'll blow your fucking head off!"

- "Stay in line and everything'll be a-oh-fucking-kay."

- "Stay away, mungo, I don't wanna catch old from you!"

- "Mungo, mungo, smells like dung-o!"

- "You can go take a hike, you insane mutant-fucker. Get out of my town!"
