We are along way from Whats Goin On here, but this record has its moments and can be (mostly) enjoyed throughout. Its probably aged really badly in terms of the production and the contents (for sure the beginning of Til Tomorrow is very cheesy!) but some of the harmonies just cant be denied. In fact once past the initial cheese of Til Tomorrow, some of those harmonies are as eargasmic as Marvin was hoping to achieve.

As is often the case, Music On Vinyl (and their outstanding partners at Record Industry) serve up perfect vinyl and a well cut DMM master that sounds like good digital with some added colour from the rig itself. Its a very fine pressing and its a pleasure (guilty perhaps) to own!

Just played my new and sealed copy that has no visible marks. Song number 3 Rockin' After Midnight' has a loud popping sound coming from the centre speaker at exactly 3:59 into the song while playing the surround mix.
Played it on two different sets, and it's still there. Sounds like a production failure.

        Anyone else with this problem?

This plays as good as my Carrollton original, maybe even better. Nice detail, punchy bass. Allen Zentz in runout and record Made in Holland.

Super happy with this pressing! Sounds great and very low surface noise.

What could I say, that has already has not be said. This is Marvin Gaye for Pete's sake! A great soulful album of love songs and ballads from a master of his craft.

                Album Revolution #10:

                Ok, I lied!!!!!

I said that "Marvin Gaye's" Album Revolution ended with "In Our Lifetime", but I was severely wrong!!!!

Why did I feel like it was over in the first place? Well, first, it was his last album with "Motown"...Second, album sales were almost Turtle Style (Very slow and low)!!!! But, DUH, I totally lost my mind in not including "Midnight Love"!!!!

For this to be what it was, first, "Marvin" had to dust himself off, and get himself together....Second, "Marvin" had to find a Record Company that still believed in the outstanding talent that he was...."Columbia Records" (with "Larkin Arnold"), took a chance on "Marvin", and it paid off!!!!!

Blasting out the gate with the Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate Crown Jewel, "Sexual Healing", "Marvin" was back in a superb way!!!! By this time, it was no surprise that "Marvin" would come up with something like this....Remember, he took over the World with "Let's Get It On"!!!!

The thing was, with "Sexual Healing", he was able channel his "Sexiness" into a different decade....Remember we were saying that "Marvin" didn't want to be left behind....And with "Rick James" killing it with "Super Freak", and Prince with "Dirty Mind", "Marvin" wanted to remind Folks where it came from!!!!! Him!!!!

The 2nd Ultimate, Ultimate Crown Jewel in , "Rockin' After Midnight", was also a standout!!!! Keeping the Groove going, "Marvin" was able to channel his "Sexy" persona to the maximum!!!!

"Turn On Some Music", the 3rd Crown Jewel, was also a nice Groove catcher....It will have your head rocking back and forth throughout the whole song...I have to honest though, "Marvin" made a Alternate Vocal/Mix version, that was on the "Midnight Love & The Sexual Healing Sessions" 2 CD set released in 1998......I actually like that version better...

Other notables on the album were "Midnight Lady", "Third World Girl" and " My Love Is Waiting"....

This album brought "Marvin" back to Worldwide Fame.....And being the national treasure he was, he started appearing everywhere, like "The NBA Finals" singing "The National Anthem" like no one else ever did, the "Motown 25" show, and even a World Tour.....

The problem was that every cent he made went everywhere else but his pockets (like Alimony and The I.R.S)....That led to Him living in his Parents house, and we all know what happened next...I refuse to go into detail!!!!! All that matters is we lost one of the Greatest performers ever in LIFE!!!!!!

Can you imagine?!?!?!?!??!! If "Marvin" lived just a little longer, what beautiful Music he would have created?!?!?!?!? There is one more more album I will review, but it will be hard for me to do....All I know, there will never, ever, ever, ever be another "Mr. Marvin Gaye"!!!!!!! Period!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice album. Some pops and cracks here and here but that’s ok. It did skip on the 3rd song on the B side.

This is definitely an early 90s reissue

Most Deluxe cd re-issues are worth having, and this one REALLY fits the bill. Everything on the 2nd disc is a must have--all the demos, alternate mixes, accapellas, etc.

(The only visible omission is the 12" remix of "Joy" which, although close to the same length as the LP mix, had an outro guitar solo and funky synth leads)

And it's high time this entire set was released on VINYL. A 4 Disc-boxed set would do very well right now...C'mon Sony!!!
