Denats

Rooted in over 30 years behind the decks, Denats is an Australia-based Irish DJ and producer working at the intersection of groove-led house and techno. Drawing from Chicago jack, New York swing and French touch, his sound is built for the dancefloor, stripped back, functional and unapologetically groovy. Shaped by ’90s club culture and a lifelong obsession with sampling, Denats came to production in the early 2000s, gradually refining a style that prioritises feel over flourish. While his workflow has evolved from working entirely in the box to incorporating hardware, the goal remains the same: create tracks that groove hard, land cleanly, and hold their own in a DJ set. Part of both the Robsoul and Purveyor Underground communities, and guided through mentoring from label heads Phil Weeks and Demuir, Denats has developed a groove-led approach to house rooted in feel, swing and dancefloor functionality. His releases span Robsoul Recordings, Purveyor Underground, Groovphoria, MK837 and The Underground Chronicles, with more forthcoming. “No matter where I start, I always end up near that jacking house sound, hopefully with my own twist on it,” he says.
