About Us

Africa Network for Animal Welfare is an indigenous Pan-African non-governmental organization which works to sustain animals as sentient beings through showing compassion, care, and appreciation. We achieve this by influencing policy, community empowerment, advocacy and attitude change.

Our Mission

The mission of ANAW is to work together with communities, governments, and other stakeholders to promote animal welfare for environmental and human health.

Our Vision

ANAW envisions a world where people show compassion, protection, and care for all animals.

Our Impact in Numbers

Since its establishment in 2006, ANAW has spearheaded key animal welfare campaigns while building Africa-wide networks with governments, policy leaders, media and other institutions to press for effective policy and legislation networks towards the care of animals. Through building these coalitions and partnerships, ANAW has succeeded in bringing together organizations dealing with animal welfare, conservation, climate change, environmental awareness and biodiversity, to tackle various animal welfare and conservation issues at community, national and international level.

Some of the key programmes include:

ANAW and Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) Veterinarians are ever on standby throughout the year to attend to wildlife rescues. Animals found injured or caught in snares in both protected and unprotected wildlife areas are rescued, treated and released back to the wild.

Annual Wildlife Count

May 2026 - ANAW Joins Annual Wildlife Count in Soysambu Conservancy. The annual event is aimed at gathering accurate data on the population size, distribution and habitat health. The data will then be used to evaluate species trends, identify conservation threats and thereafter help in guiding policy and resource allocation.
