About Us
AccessLex Institute® is the leading nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering the next generation of lawyers by improving legal education’s access, affordability, and value. The organization devotes substantial resources to financial education and scholarship programs, while funding and conducting actionable research on the most critical issues facing legal education. AccessLex seeks to increase diversity and expand access to legal education through policy advocacy, research, grantmaking, and data analysis. Its academic success and bar preparation programming – in combination with its affiliate, Helix Bar Review by AccessLex® – reflect a commitment to increasing first-time bar passage rates nationwide while making bar review more affordable and effective. Member law schools include the nearly 200 nonprofit and state-affiliated ABA-approved institutions. Founded in 1983, AccessLex Institute is headquartered in West Chester, PA and has over $850 million in total net assets.
Center for Legal Education Excellence®
The AccessLex Center for Legal Education Excellence® is committed to understanding and surmounting the legal education affordability and access barriers that confront historically underrepresented groups. Empirical research, action-oriented data analysis, policy advocacy, grantmaking, diversity pathway programs, and leadership convenings advance the Center’s goal of strengthening value, affordability, and access to legal education.
Center for Education and Financial Capability®
The AccessLex Center for Education and Financial Capability® empowers aspiring, current, and recently graduated law students with the tools and knowledge to make informed financial decisions throughout their legal education journey. Through free online and in-person resources – including the MAX by AccessLex® personal finance program, one-on-one coaching with Accredited Financial Counselors, interactive money management and loan repayment tools, scholarship programs, and timely guidance for students, pre-law advisors, and law school administrators – the Center promotes confident financial decision-making on the path to personal and professional success. The Center also provides support and professional development for administrators advancing financial education and student success at their institutions.
AccessLex Institute is pleased to enter the NBRI Circle of Excellence for the fourth consecutive survey year.
