CPW
So I think all of you who applied to MIT know already whether or not you've been accepted. Congrats to everyone who has been accepted and apologies to anyone who hasn't. I'm sure you'll all do well no matter where you end up.
The purpose of this post is to encourage everyone who was accepted to come to CPW. MIT during the summer is different from MIT during the semester, and it is a good idea to visit again before making your final decisions about where to go. CPW might also be a bit different from most of the semester, but it will give you a better idea of what MIT is about. There are all a lot of things happening during CPW and it is a lot of fun. You'll get to meet other prospective freshmen as well as lots of upperclassmen. Make sure to talk to the upperclassmen because they will be able to tell you more about what it will be like at MIT.
Also make sure to visit as many dorms as possible. This is quite possibly one of the most important things at MIT. The housing system here is different from what you'll find at most other colleges and your living group can become a very close tight-knit community. MIT can be a stressful place, but finding a living group where you fit in well can make everything else here a lot easier. I made the mistake of choosing a dorm based mostly on location and ammenities, and I was miserable first semester freshman year because I didn't have a good support group. Moving to my current living group was the best thing I ever did at MIT. If you decide to come to MIT, you will get a chance to explore dorms again before classes start. I won't get into the details of that now unless you ask me too, but take dorm rush seriously. I came to MIT for the academics. I stay for the people I've met and the environment I live in.
So again, come to CPW and visit as many dorms as you can. Also feel free to email me or comment here if you have any questions about MIT and I'll do my best to answer.
