Film at Lincoln Center (FLC) is a nonprofit organization that celebrates cinema as an essential art form and fosters a vibrant home for film culture to thrive. FLC presents premier film festivals, retrospectives, new releases, and restorations year-round in state-of-the-art theaters at New York’s Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. We offer audiences the opportunity to discover works from established and emerging directors from around the world with a passionate community of film lovers at marquee events including the New York Film Festival and New Directors/New Films.

Founded in 1969, FLC is committed to preserving the excitement of the theatrical experience for all audiences, advancing high-quality film journalism through the publication of Film Comment, cultivating the next generation of film industry professionals through our FLC Academies, and enriching the lives of all who engage with our programs.

Film Series and Festivals

Presented by Film at Lincoln Center in partnership with Rolex, the New York Film Festival (NYFF) is an annual celebration of the most significant international films of the season. NYFF has played a pivotal role in shaping film culture since its inception in 1963 and continues its enduring tradition of introducing audiences to bold and remarkable works from celebrated filmmakers as well as fresh new talent.

New York Jewish Film Festival

FLC and The Jewish Museum partner to bring you this annual festival each January, highlighting the finest films from around the world that explore the diversity of Jewish experience. Recent festival premieres have included Cédric Kahn’s One Life starring Anthony Hopkins and Delphine and Muriel Coulin’s Charlotte Salomon: Life and the Maiden, featuring Vicky Krieps.

Rendez-Vous with French Cinema

In partnership with Unifrance, FLC’s annual Rendez-Vous with French Cinema returns each March with works by emerging talents and established masters that highlight the variety of contemporary French filmmaking. Recent editions featured Jessica Palud’s Being Maria with Matt Dillon and Anamaria Vartolomei, Bertrand Bonello’s Nocturama, Jacques Audiard’s Paris, 13th District, and Justine Triet’s Victoria.

New Directors/New Films

Since 1972, New Directors/New Films (ND/NF) has showcased new and emerging filmmakers whose distinctive visions highlight the vitality and potential of cinema, introducing New York audiences to Pedro Almodóvar, Ryûsuke Hamaguchi, Kelly Reichardt, Christopher Nolan, Souleymane Cissé, Spike Lee, Lynne Ramsay, Wong Kar-wai, Denis Villeneuve, Luca Guadagnino, and hundreds more. Presented each April by FLC and The Museum of Modern Art.

New York African Film Festival

For more than 30 years, May’s annual New York African Film Festival, co-presented by FLC and African Film Festival, Inc., has featured new and classic African and diaspora cinema, with a focus on intergenerational discourse. Recent highlights include a special conversation with Souleymane Cissé, Abderrahmane Sissako’s Black Tea, Moussa Sène Absa’s Xalé, Fatou Cissé’s Furu, and a master class with Haile Gerima.

Open Roads: New Italian Cinema

FLC and Cinecittà present the annual Open Roads: New Italian Cinema each spring. The premier North American showcase for the most compelling voices in contemporary Italian filmmaking, Open Roads’ lineup ranges from Italian box office hits to independent fare, from both emerging talents and esteemed veterans. Recent filmmakers include Nanni Moretti, Ferzan Özpetek, Francesco Costabile, and Mario Martone.

New York Asian Film Festival

Each July FLC and the New York Asian Film Foundation present the New York Asian Film Festival, a survey of essential films from across Southeast Asia, plus a variety of events and Q&As with stars and auteurs. Recent highlights include Cheuk Wan-chi’s Vital Signs with Hong Kong legend Louis Koo, Sean Wang’s Dìdi, Pat Boonnitipat’s How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies, and Lee Won-suk’s Killing Romance.

Series and Retrospectives

Throughout the year, FLC’s programming team curates a wide range of programs for devoted cinephiles and new audiences alike. Recent retrospectives have included Edward Yang, Frederick Wiseman, Catherine Breillat, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Luchino Visconti, Wong Kar-wai, Sophia Loren, Dario Argento, and Ryûsuke Hamaguchi, and film series curated by directors Ari Aster, Robert Eggers, Denis Villeneuve, Jordan Peele, the Daniels, and more.

New Releases

See the latest and most anticipated new films from around the world year-round in FLC’s state-of-the-art theaters. We frequently host filmmakers and actors for Q&As and sneak preview screenings, with recent appearances by David Cronenberg and Diane Kruger (The Shrouds), Jia Zhangke (Caught by the Tides), Mike Leigh and Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Hard Truths), Sean Baker (Anora), Jerzy Skolimowski (EO), and many more.

Each year, thousands of local students attend free Student Screenings at FLC, giving young people critical exposure to world cinema and the chance to interact with filmmakers—many for the very first time.

Published by Film at Lincoln Center, Film Comment has been the premier independent home for film journalism since 1962, dedicated to advancing film culture through critical analysis, in-depth filmmaker interviews, festival coverage, podcasts, live events, and more. In 2026, Film Comment launched a new digital magazine giving subscribers access to quarterly issues covering the latest developments in cinema along with a searchable online archive of more than 300 print editions spanning seven decades.

FLC’s largest annual fundraiser, the Chaplin Award Gala began in 1972 with its inaugural honoree, Charlie Chaplin, and has since honored legendary actors and filmmakers such as Alfred Hitchcock, Federico Fellini, Martin Scorsese, Meryl Streep, Sidney Poitier, Robert De Niro, Spike Lee, Cate Blanchett, Viola Davis, Pedro Almodóvar, and many more.

The FLC Academy Programs support the next generation of film artists and critics by providing practical experience and mentorship from experts in their field. The multiday Academies take place each fall during the New York Film Festival. Applications are accepted each summer.

By offering complimentary and discounted tickets to local organizations in the New York metropolitan region, community outreach efforts at FLC aim to make our arts programming accessible to diverse audiences while bolstering connections between our film community and local organizations already making an impact.
