Oh. Hello.

lavvyan kindly sent me some panda love (♥!), so I figured I should probably verify that I am, in fact, still alive over here.

So, um, yeah.

Oh, since I last posted at the end of May (*insert guilty conscience here*), I haven't told y'all that I successfully obtained my level-up to Librarian II in June. Which was ... rather anti-climactic for all the blood, sweat, and tears put into it. (So... rather like when I handed in my undergrad thesis.)

And in not-yet-happened exciting news, I am going to Germany in November! I've bought my (tragically expensive) tickets and everything! :D This will be my third trip to Deutschland, making it my most-travelled-to country. Which I never would have guessed when I first started travelling abroad in 2003, but I'm totally okay with it. ♥

Sunday travel edition

You know what's an excellent thing to do on a lazy Sunday? Take a trip to Ireland! Okay, so maybe that's a bit expensive, especially last minute, but how about a virtual trip?

Rambles, Sketches, Tours: Travellers & Tourism in Ireland

Basically, I made an exhibit for my library and now it is online and you should check it out! I am quite proud of it. :D (Feel free to leave comments on the guestbook feature to amaze my supervisors with how popular I am! You can sign them however you want. ♥)

Coast of ginger pepper spice

Greetings from Philadelphia! I arrived at my new flat safely yesterday, and we also made it to Ikea, so now I have more furniture (including a loveseat! to sit on! so exciting!) in various states of assembly.

I have no internet in my flat yet, though, so I am currently ensconced at a table in the Gryphon Café, with a chai latte and free wifi. ♥ to all!

Back Stateside.

The land of free bathrooms and toilet seat covers is all well and good, but I miss Bayern. I did not know it was possible to be homesick for a place you only lived in for three weeks, but it is.

Also, 7 hours on a train yesterday (Venezia to München) + 9 hours on a plane today (München to D.C.) + 6 hours of jet lag = oof.

(no subject)

Back in Munich for the night, then flying back to D.C. tomorrow.

It is sad being in Munich again without being able to do anything. At least I got to grab a couple more proper German pretzels at the Hauptbahnhof. Alas, there was no last apfelstreudel, though. American food (and transportation and places to go and...) is far inferior to that of Deutschland and Italia. Woe. :(

But I went a whole five weeks without stepping inside a single Starbucks! \o/

Hallo von München!

We had a good flight and even arrived at the Flughafen München early. We landed shortly after 7:00, and it was gorgeous flying over Germany. It's an even prettier shade of green than the East Coast. (Green is my second-favourite colour after the blues of the sky and seas.) We had no problems with customs (and, in fact, the customs officers did not say a single word to some of us) and no missing bags. We were, of course, utterly exhausted after the overnight flight, but we spent the day on the move, to keep awake until a reasonable bedtime. So, after checking in to our hotel, we went out to a grocery store for snacks since our hotel rooms are multiple bedroom flats with kitchenettes.

Thus supplied, we went out for lunch at the Ratskeller in the Neues Rathaus and then spent the afternoon wandering around Marienplatz in a dazed stupor while trying not to pass out from exhaustion. Cindy and I wandered through Becks department store and some smaller shops, before catching the Glockenspiel show at 17:00. It was nice, but we were quite exhausted and looking up so high with clouds zipping by was rather dizzying, so we gave up on wandering after that and headed back to the hotel.

Tomorrow is our first day at the IJB. :)

Must collapse in bed now.

Glockenspiel

and sort-of hiatus

This time tomorrow I will be in Munich! I will most likely be wandering around like a zombie, since it's an overnight flight and I don't sleep well on planes, but I will be a very excited zombie! :D

So, the class blog, maintained by two of my classmates, is over [here], if you'd like to follow along. I've got a flickr account [here] for photo dumps.

We're also required to keep a daily journal for the class part of this adventure, so I'll try to cross-post the interesting stuff here. But I won't have time for flist-reading or replying to comments (unless you ask a question, in which case I shall try), so please know you're all loved and I will miss you (but only a little, because mostly I will be full of squee ;) ) and you can reach me via email if you have anything that can't wait.

In case I forget or don't have internet access on the actual days, happy birthday to propinquitine, valancy_s, and argosy.

berlinghoff79, lavvyan, and sonadorita, I'll see you in three weeks! :D

Bis bald! (Until soon!)
