A word or two before I start.

I guess I should make an introductory post, just in case ))

Only recently, I've discovered the wonderful world of HP fanfiction. I must confess, I'm not a big fan of HP books (though I do think JKR is a commercial genius). But fanfiction makes it so much better!

I'm not averse to any pairings, though minor characters make me lukewarm, and slash is not my cup of tea.

My all-time favourites are Severus Snape and Hermione Granger. And naturally, I ship them :)

In my RL, I work as a key account manager for a very large and very famous software company, and I'm currently on maternity leave.  Plenty of time on my hands, so I decided to practice my English skills some.

Most of the RL stuff is flocked, so are some of the fandom-related ramblings.

P.S. please feel free to friend me. I think I'm on the friending spree myself ))

Fandom stuffs

I'm lagging behind on so many things. Considering the fact that I'm still on bed-to-bathroom route only, I think I'm into too much stuff. But I kind of like it like this.

And now this. I think I'm sort of in love with Snape/Luna. Thank you, Maggots, by MyaMadwin.

I'm also going to try something new. Of late I have been working on a translation. From Russian into English. Hard work, but fascinating and omg, so enlightening, language, text, writing and fandom-wise.

Russian fandom has some really nice fics. But in terms of reader preferences, things differ immensely. But I've found a little gem, I think. I'm very, very curious about how it will turn out.

More art and fic.

I wrote something for celebrate_sshg . Go read, if you're in the mood for some fanfic :) There are also a bunch of other lovely stories, some are still waiting for mee.

Also did a drawing for the story. Hope it looks enticing enough for you go click and... ok, ok, I shut up!

On a life note, I sprained my ankle and ripped a tendon yesterday. Which means a week to ten days in bed, embracing my laptop. Which means lots of drawing and writing and doing tons of free-lance. Which is a good thing, since I need the money for New Year and Christmas. It hurts like a bitch though. But a week in bed. And here's me wanting to hole up with Fallout a few days ago... I even remember making a post about it. Beware of your wishes, indeed. I think I may be a witch, hahaha :))

Ugh.

Sarcozy said 10-15 years. Well, I still have a chance to travel in Europe freely before I'm too old to want to travel. Just hop in a last-minute-bought plane ticket and go to Prague or Helsinki or Vien or any other city I lurve and not care about goddamed visas.

Before that time, I'll have to plan whatever trip at least a month ahead and apply for a visa every time, wait in day-long lines at an embassy, show them my credit card history and work references, and suffer lots of other humiliations. And praise my luck that I don't live somewhere from where it would take me a two-hour plane trip in order to show up for a visa interview.

Still, if I were to choose between my contry joining EU (not that it's gonna happen in my lifetime anyways :)) and taking pains with all this visa fuckwittage for work and leisure trips, I'd go with the latter, thank you very much.

Stuffs

I am quite miserably down with flu and otitis. Am viciously contagious, and V's enjoying quality time with my mum. Was meaning to draw pr0n, because you know, it's the best flue medicine there is, but Mr's Grandma came to visit for a few days. Oh, mother of Merlin, Buddha, Mary, Joseph, Aliens and that lion from Narnia (I'm still on True Blood withdrawal). She talks to TV. If she talked to history channel or news or even discovery shit, I'd be okay with that. But she talks to all those horrible crime or legal trial-imitation shows, stupidest-ass soaps and trashy talk shows which put Jerry Springer to shame. And when she is not doing it, she relates these plots to me. *wrings hands dramatically*

My muse? Killed. Died in agony. I barely scrambled for some brains to put the snape_ldws drabble together.

On a plus note, she brought home-made pikeperch, smoked on cherry wood. It's the best.shit.ever. Almost worth the TV conversations.

Are you afraid of heights?

Mr. and I have been searching for a new flat for at least half a year already. And we finally found one. It's perfect in everything. Space, light, location, price, neighbourhood, closeness to work and transport and stuff. Perfecto. With one little exception. It's on the seventeenth floor. I know, it sounds rather ridiculous, but I can't physically stomach being anywhere above floor 8-9 or so, unless I absolutely have to. Even climbing up there to check it out gave me creeps and shaky hands. Peeps living and working in cities like NYC, where floor 17 is practically ground level are probably rolling their eyes at me at the moment.

Gawd, I know.  But I'm so afraid of heights it's beyond crazy. I can only get in a plane if I'm very, very inebriated or/and drugged with sedatives to the point where I need to be carried out.  When I had a job which involved trips to other countries about twice a month, it was hell.
When I have chances to go to amazing sites, like Eifel Tower or Empire State building, I always skip, because I'm so chicken.

I even once tried to cure it by the good ole 'fight fire with fire' thing - jumped with a chute. And jumping with a chute in Russia is probably different in several ways - you don't have to attach youself to an instructor, you can jump alone on a wing chute from 1400 meters only after 4 hours of training on the field, which is exactly what I did.  I won't be telling the sordid tale of my jump right now, but lemme just say that it only intensified the fear.

Mr. is very, very angry, because he thinks that living on floor 17 is all sorts of awesome. Ye fates, I hate thee.

'Shrooms and other things.

I love mushroom hunting. No, scratch that, I'm absolutely addicted to mushroom hunting. In Russia it's one of the favourite summer past-times. Where peeps in Europe and US go out to picnics or barbecues, Russians horde up, grab baskets and head out to the nearest forest.

Of course, since this summer has been exceptionally sucky, heat, forest fires and all, I had no hope, but hooray! it rained and it fogged and what not, and donning my rubber boots, I set off.

My (and everyone else's here) favs are summer bolets. They have exquisite taste and omg, the scent. Baked with sour cream and onions they are to die for. Dry them up in a real stove, powder an use as a seasoning - and it's the best seasoning I've ever tried.

But the best, of course, is pasta with cream, parmesan and summer bolets. OMG, my mouth tingles just thinking of it. I just ate a bowl, BTW.

Here are my babies. Not great, comparing, but quite great, considering.

Life and other things that are not particularly exciting.

I haven't been here in ages. Haven't read

a single Exchange fic or checked my dear GS100 or written a word for SSHG. 60 straight days of temps above 35 Celcius is to blame. In a country where AC is at most an unnecessary trifle, this is  horrible, horrible torture. And the smoke. The smoke is the worst, and I live smack in the middle of all those giant-ass forest fires. UGH.

Now that it's finally cooled off, and by cooled off I mean it got down to 25C, which is still unheard of so late in August, I'm able to do things on my computer again.

So, what's new. Not much. Summer's been one giant flat hunt. I sold my flat pretty quickly, but finding a new one proved to be a challenge. We're also building a house some 200km away from the cesspool, so it also takes frakking lot of time. Miss V has been green, sick and barfing with all this terrible smoke. When I shipped her off to my mom, I had to fly pick them up a few days later, and I actually got to fly in a helicopter (which was hell), since the fire situation in the rural areas is so bad. I saw an actual firestorm! It doesn't look as bad as all the youtube videos they show on every channel now, but I reckon it's because I saw it from above. Damn global warming. I'd raher trade places with Central Europe and drown. Though, it's probably accumulated disdain speaking and not me.

On a fandom note, I think I may have run into a corner of sorts with Ashwinder mods. Bummer. But that's a story for another time and another post.

I'm anxiously waiting for autumn and rain to come and wash away the memories of this summer, because right now I feel like we all are doomed to die come 2012 or 2020, or whatever year is significant for whatever reason, if things with the climate progress at this rate.

Daily stuffs.

Miss V turns one year old tomorrow. I can't believe it's been a year. Some part of me still feels like a child-free kidophobiac and doesn't believe I actually have one of my own. She runs around like an electric broom and can say a few words. Her first word, uttered in an actual relevant situation, and which cannot be blamed to a senseless repetition of syllables, was 'caca'. No need for translation. I wonder what it says about me as a mother. *rolls eyes at self*.

I have received a most wonderful gift today. A translation of Of Fickle Fates and Fateful Fungi into Russian. I was shocked and amazed at how well-done it was. Usually, I'm the first to decend with harsh criticism, bitching and moaning about how sloppy and bad translated fics are. But яд did a truly marvelous job. So, if any of you my Russian readers are browsing this by chance, go read it like NOW.

And if anyone receives a request from this interpreter, be assured that she'll do a top-notch job.

On another note, it's so effing hot in here. The other day it was 40C. and 32C at night. I feel like I moved to Abu-Dabi or something.
