Hi, I hope you're doing well as well.

It seems that a few hours after you asked this question, the article for creation submission was declined due to a lack of significant coverage to qualify for an article. I'm not aware of football / soccer notability guidelines (if any) but it's not clear to me either why this person qualifies for an article.

The article itself is detailed, referenced and describes her life, but, the article mentions at least on three occassions that she focused on her studies / medical career rather than her sports career, so she doesn't appear to be notable for her sports career. Many athletes or sports competitors become notable after competing in senior-level matches or winning senior-level medals. See also: Wikipedia:Notability (sports) for sports notability guidelines.

She may become notable in the future for her medical career but at the moment I think neither areas of her life would be sufficient to qualify for an article. Simeon (talk) 17:17, 25 July 2023 (UTC)

Hi, I'm not able to read Persian or to translate it to English on my own but from what I gather using Google Translate, he hasn't yet won senior level medals so he would not yet be notable for an article on the English Wikipedia (unless there are other reasons for notability). So I think we'd have to wait until he wins senior level medals at (international) competitions - in that case someone will notice eventually and create an article on the English Wikipedia. Draft:2024 US Olympic Team Trials (wrestling)

Hey Simeon, how you doing? It's been a while. I'm working on this article for the upcoming Olympic Trials for wrestling, but I'm having an issue with the brackets at 65 and 86 kilograms.

At these weight classes, 2023 World champion at 70 kilos (non-olympic weight) Zain Retherford (65 kg) and 2023 World bronze medalist at 92 kilos (non-olympic weight) Zahid Valencia (86 kg) will sit in the semifinals of their respective brackets, which would look something like this and like this.

I'm having trouble replicating this into 65 kilos and 86 kilos in the draft I'm working on. Do you happen to know a way to help replicate this into Wikipedia format? Thank you! Tomascr7 (talk) 20:17, 14 April 2024 (UTC)

Hi, I'm not sure that's possible with the current templates (at least I haven't seen it done on other pages). It may be an idea to use maxround=3 in the 16TeamBracket-Compact-NoSeeds-Byes template and then place the remaining matches below it? A different idea could be to add a separate match, like done for the Olympic wrestle-off match on this page (below the Repechage), and clarify with text / a footnote that this match took place in between the other matches. Hey! Yea I haven't seen it before either, what I did for the last cycle was tweaking the original brackets so the matchups would be the same and that way I could add the wrestlers who went right into the semis, like at 74 kilos (2020), but there's like twice the amount of entries now and therefore that's not possible. I reached out to a guy that created the brackets for last year's World Championships to see if he can help, if he can't, I'll probably do what you said last and try to make it as non-complicated as I can for the reader. class & importance parameters on categories

When tagging categories, could you please remove blank |class=, |class=cat, |class=category, blank |importance=, |importance=NA parameters (case-insensitive) (e.g. [5] -> [6])? Edits that do only this are WP:Cosmetic, so should not be done on their own in large number, so bundling them with your significant edit like a WikiProject tag is ideal. The World Destubathon

Importance ratings

Hi, I see you are rapidly tagging articles for projects, but it seems you are ranking all of them indiscriminately as of "low" importance. If true, then please don't do it, as it is useless when it isn't done by someone who really looks at and knows about the relative importance. For example, Olympic gold medal winner Bart Swings as low importance for his sport? It's better to have no rating until someone who really cares tries to do it correctly, than to be rated at random (even though by picking "low" you will automatically have a 90% success rate, it still is a poor exercise). I hope you're doing well. I recently came across your excellent work on English Wikipedia, especially your contributions to articles on Iranian artists. I was truly impressed by the quality and the thoughtful representation of their careers.

I was wondering if you would consider creating or translating an English Wikipedia article for Mahdiyeh Afshar Bakeshloo. She is a contemporary Iranian visual artist and researcher whose work has been exhibited internationally. I believe her artistic contributions deserve to be visible on the English Wikipedia as well.

Tagging Japanese pages

Hey man, you’re doing a FANTASTIC job tagging all the anime etc pages as part of the Wikiproject Japan… but, just as a favour… I wonder if when you’re tagging them, you could add “importance=low” to all of them as well, because it’s killing me a little having to go and tag them all after you add them to the project…. I’m trying to clear out all the ones without importance, and I allllmost had them cleared before suddenly 5ere are a few hundred more 😆

like, it’s a grand problem to have, but just if you could add the importance in, that would really save me a couple of dozen hours 😆

Hi, thanks, and it makes sense to ask this. I had stopped adding importance=low as for most of these articles I'm not familiar with the biography/person being tagged (see also the comment above on this talk page, a month ago). So it could be an approach to just add the WikiProject template and leave the importance assessment to someone else. But perhaps for many articles I can still assess them based on the content and tag them as importance=low when it is appropriate. This should still mean most can be tagged as importance=low and, in case of doubt, I can leave out the importance parameter. Simeon (talk) 18:41, 21 September 2025 (UTC)

Thanks for getting back so quickly. In the case of WikiProject Japan, we pretty much try to follow the importance guidelines where things are important if they are like categories that other articles would belong to, which means that in practice 95% of all articles are ranked low. We get people ranking stuff on “yes, but this anime was seminal” for stuff that they just kind of like, which is wrong, but too much hassle to change. In the cases of stuff you tagged, I’ve categorised hundreds of them so far, and I think I’ve found like ONE mid? So you could just about do them all as low, and if they are actually mid or higher, someone will notice it fairly quickly and change it… though in practice, if it was that important, someone else would have seen it and tagged them into the WikiProject already, and they haven’t, which is why you and I have to go out and find the bloody things 😆

Hi, it's for completeness for any articles related to the United States WikiProject, so it appears in the related WikiProject categories (for example Category:Stub-Class United States articles). This helps with correctness of the article count totals (as otherwise you'd have to sum/combine the US and each of the state WikiProjects) and it can help with finding articles to work on, and one wouldn't have to know a particular state that an article is related to.
