Foreign fighters including British nationals are also a part of the unit.[81]

On 19 August 2022, a soldier of the battalion (Votovych Yaroslav Olehovych) was killed in Mykolaiv Oblast during the 2022 Kherson counteroffensive.[82] On 28 November 2022, three soldiers of the battalion (Marynych Serhi Ivanovych,[83] Pastukh Serhi Anatoliovych[84] and Shvets Oleksandr Anatoliovych[85]) were killed in action in Klischiivka. On 1 December 2022, a soldier of the battalion (Sidorov Andri Oleksandrovych) was killed during the Battle of Klischiivka.[86][87] On 6 December 2022, five soldiers of the battalion (Dovhi Viktor Ivanovych,[88] Tsoma Vitali Petrovych,[89] Votovych Mykola Svatoslavovych,[90] Savenko Serhi Volodymyrovych[91] and Chernushevych Vasyl Vitaliovych[92]) were killed in action in Klischiivka, another (Ayben Fedir Yuriovych) was killed there, the next day[93] and four more (Vlasenko Maksym Harriyevych,[94] Olinyk Pavlo Vasylovych,[95] Zamsha Serhi Mykhailovych[96] and Varchuk Oleksandr Andriovych[97]) were killed, the day later.

The battalion was deployed in Donetsk Oblast in April 2024 to slow down the Pokrovsk offensive.[98] On 2 September 2024, it's forces in conjunction with others, were able to repel a Russian mechanized assault using non-standard mining, destroying four of the seven attacking vehicles including a TMT-K trawler,[99] and continued to hold it's ground steadily in the first 6 days of September.[100] On 15 September 2024, it stopped a Russian assault in Pokrovsk.[101] Since November 2024, it's personnel were engaged in action during the Battle of Toretsk.[102] In December 2024, some of it's forces were still engaged in Pokrovsk.[103]

The 20th Electronic Warfare Battalion (MUN A1828) is a battalion level unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, concerned with electronic warfare. It is headquartered in Cherkaske and has seen action during both the War in Donbass and the Russian invasion of Ukraine.[104]

History

edit

The unit was established on 27 September 2013.

Since the beginning of the War in Donbass, the battalion's personnel have been actively participating in action, both as part of maneuver groups and as entire units.[105] On 1 November 2018, the battalion suffered its first combat fatality during heavy machine gun and small arms fire on a Ukrainian Armed Forces stronghold near Zaitseve when a soldier of the battalion (Honcharenko Ihor Andriyovych) was killed.[106][107]

The battalion has taken part in the Battle of Izium, the liberation of Husarivka, the Battle of Kharkiv, 2022 Kharkiv counteroffensive, the Battle of Trostyanets, Battle of Okhtyrka and the Battle of Staromarivka among others. In August 2022, the 20th EW Battalion started providing support to units during the Battle of Bakhmut including communications jamming, direct assault and counterdrone warfare, and after a short break returned to the city in January 2023 and remained deployed until May.[108] On 20 January 2023, a soldier of the battalion (Plokhotyuk Ivan Vasylovych) was killed during the Battle of Kreminna.[109] On 13 August 2024, a soldier of the battalion (Yakovenko Yaroslav Oleksandrovych) was killed in Sadly.[110]
