'Sexual assault is an act of sexual abuse in which one intentionally sexually touches another person without that person's consent'

Is being in a romantic/sexual/marital relationship counted as implied consent? I am reasonably sure that intimate couples do not ask each other 'Can I touch you?' each time they do so, but I assume that the law doesn't consider them to be committing sexual assaults on each other all the time? 62.73.72.3 (talk) 10:04, 26 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

i am suggesting aggravated sexual assault and sexual assault by penetration (fingering or objects) are added. Indomie-Man 1994 (talk) 17:37, 28 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

As soon as you add a phrase like aggravated sexual assault you’re getting into the specific legal definitions of “aggravated”. Too specific for lead. Fingering is already included by the general terms used in the lead. Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 05:26, 16 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Sexual Battery and Molestation should be added as a notifier

edit

I am thinking this crime is known as Sexual Battery in some US States and Indecent Assault should be merged into it. Adult-Victim Molestation would also be a good way to differ it from Sexual Assault by Penetration (Rape) few years ago RTE in Ireland said "Rape, Molestation and Child Sex Abuse" in a documentary. Thank You. Indomie-Man 1994 (talk) 14:39, 12 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

This is a general topic in sexual assault. Jurisdictions around the world describe the related offences differently, sometimes with slight modifications and sometimes with major differences in the nomenclature. We can’t keep adding all of the jurisdiction-specific names. The lead would become unwieldy. Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 17:49, 12 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Alright. No Problem. Indomie-Man 1994 (talk) 17:55, 12 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
That’s not to say we can’t merge short articles from particular jurisdictions into this article. It makes sense to have this article as the general survey article, and then separate articles for particular jurisdictions if they’re big enough to warrant being a stand-alone article. Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 21:55, 12 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the input. I mean Every Rape is a Sexual Assault or for of Sexual Violent but Sexual Assault is not Rape it is Molestation or Unwanted forcifullly sexual touching or Forced kisses or other sexual activities like lifting up a female skirt or ejaculating semen on someone and it is also penetration (fingering/digital penetration like in Scotland and close to home Northern Ireland). That reason Rape and Sexual Assault could be charged in same incident unlike Homicide (Murder, Manslaughter) and there is even Attempted Sexual Assault in many countries including Ireland, it is not an umbrella offence like CSA and organization like this https://rapecrisis.org.uk/get-informed/types-of-sexual-violence/ defines it almost perfectly. Up to recently Sexual Assault was known as Indecent Assault and in Ancient time known as Molestation as someone who have attended churches Pastors or Priests call the offences Rape and Molestation so Adult victim Molestation or even Sexual Battery could be acknowledged. Nonetheless I still follow what you say and we cannot conflict. Thank you. Have A Great Day. Indomie-Man 1994 (talk) 00:35, 13 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
