i think the adaptation of heated rivalry from book to screen is already a great example of how shane being a subbottom can be done in a way that doesnt feel fetishistic .

i keep seeing posts pop up of authors in the heated rivalry fandom taking their fics down because of toxicity and the culprit is always, without fail, threads and/or twitter.

so hot take i guess but hr is not a uniquely toxic fandom, it's just a very big fandom, and threads and twitter as platforms foster toxicity by prioritizing engagement. of course people are having a bad time on the argument apps built to keep you arguing.

we're at that point of the heated rivalry cycle where people are making posts like "i can't stop thinking about the way ilya's fingers twitched towards shane's dick in this scene" and it's a gif of a 0.1 second long moment slowed down x50 and it has 1,230 notes and the tags are all like #lets all kill ourselves #there are cathedrals

The way all the 2020s have done so far have been making me categorically against every new generation of tech that comes out is insane. Like I'm from a technological boom generation, saw the first portable phones, nokias & blackberries & flipphones etc, and the first smartphones, and the first ipods & ipads & tablets in general while still having cassettes & DVD & MP3 players around so I know how all of it work, I had computer classes in high school, I did the transition between home desktop computers to laptops and back to gaming computers. But then they started to put internet in your printer & microwave, everything has ads & AI now and every update is worst than the last. I literally loved technology and they ruined it
