The best way to know who I am is to read my journal. Lots of entries are locked, so if you want to see them, just comment to me. I am Dr. Susan Swan, Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Social Justice and a full time mother of three children, 2.5, 5, 15. They are all wonderful, yes, even the teenager who is a blessing to me everyday. My big loves other than my children are reading, writing, word puzzles, board games, poetry, laughing and making people laugh, travel to non-equatorial or rain forest places (I hate heat and bugs, but I will probably go to Africa one day anyway, because I think it is important for everyone to go witness the cradle of civilization.) I've been really interested in travel writing lately. I love movies a LOT. My favorite movie is Moulin Rouge. I have an enormous interest in archaeology, evolution, and the blending of the two. I just read about how people called speleologists are going into the sewers under Rome to see how the city was originally planned. They just found out while doing this that the Colloseum used to be flooded so that they could put on mock navy battles. It rules that we can figure that out. I just want to go to Italy and Greece and pick any random grassy place and dig. I used to teach, but got on the wrong track, and then decided that academia sucks. The people are mean, the gossip is required and vicious, and there are too many meetings for any person to have a family life. I love to teach, so I will be doing that one day in the not so far off future. I also do community organizing, and my main goal right now is to get Barack Obama elected as President of the United States of America on November 4. After that, I will join other community organizing efforts. What else? I'm covered with tattoos, including a full neck tattoo (no, it didn't hurt, I fell asleep, it's different for girls), a full back, two partial sleeves, not much work left on either, a large right leg tattoo, and a chest tattoo that connects with my neck. Oh, and my first little African Violets tattoo on my left ankle. Yes, they are addictive. I'm very committed to the tattooed/body modified community, and I am going to work to get us legally protected status, as I have experienced much prejudice, including medical emergency room prejudice, strictly because of my tattoos. Other than that, I'm in Weight Watchers right now, trying to learn how to exercise too. I'm also starting NA. Long story, that one's unlocked.
