Competitors vie to be the first across the finish line in a made-for-TV city built for destruction, with the ultimate goal of becoming the season champion. Competitors in Split/Second don't just collide with other vehicles to knock them from the track -- they can also trigger explosive events that drastically alter the dynamics of the race. Players must use strategy and pinpoint timing to derail opponents, tactically alter the track or create entirely new routes. [Disney] Expand

Split/Second: Survival at the Rock Pack Official Trailer

  1. With tracks ravaged and different for every lap and timed explosives akin to Mario Kart, Split/Second just overtook Burnout and sped through its burning wreckage.
  2. With Split/Second, Black Rock Studio has clearly blown the doors off. This is fast-paced racing at its finest, the best of its kind since Burnout 3: Takedown hit the open road years ago. It'll take a lot to top this one.

Split/Second is an explosive shot of distilled arcade energy; it's action that's fueled by the slick production of the Hollywood a-list, and racing that's infused with an infectious amount of fun.

For the most part Split/Second: Velocity hits the mark like a cargo ship through your windscreen. It's extreme fun and effortless to get into, like the best weekend party games should be, but may struggle over the longer term.
  5. Split/Second requires exactly the right combination of skill, memory and reflexes from you while maintaining a permanent high of tactile feedback, sensory assault and knife-edge excitement. If that's Black Rock's elevator pitch for a modern arcade racer: sold.
  6. It may have its problems with repetition and unfair AI, but there's no doubting the joy to be had engaging in its phenomenal action.
  7. This arcade racing game lacks some arguments in the long run.

Split second is a lot like Burnout revenge with a unique twist... I let a friend play it who was a big fan of racing games and he loved it in all honesty!!! You can get the game for a decent price and has a decent online multiplier community, so I say its worth every bit of 15 to 20 bucks and you will get more than you paid for :) This game is a must have!!!! This game requires not only driving skill but it also requires forward planning and tactics in order to secure a win. You will love getting to know each track and the big power plays that come with them. Online is frustrating because everyone is so good but that was inevitable. In response to the rather critical review below I would say this: Yes the game is hard but not as you describe. With determination and effort you can complete it (the achievement for this is ranked my most valuable on the website true achievement.com). The only criticism I have is that detonator is too difficult and boring anyway(it's similar to time trial). Expand

With its environmentalIs there any game more frenetic and fast paced as Burnout? well probably not, but Split/Second comes pretty damn close. With its environmental devastation, unique destructive gameplay and some creative race types, Split/Second is full of thrills and excitement. The debris that tares and sweeps across the track is truly incredible. However, this excitement is somewhat dimmed by predictable trap layouts and a general lack of courses. Further more, it is likely not going to sustain the same amount of play time as core rival Blur. If you had to plump for one over the other, then as far as thrills and excitement goes, you should probably stick with Split/Second despite the lack of content and sustainability. Expand
