take up space, read the plaques, get the audioguides. you are just as entitled and right in being there. visit museums, boycott museums, be expressive about your opinions about museums.

a lot of museums are free, or discounted for youth and students. take advantage of that. check your local art museum. check your local history museum. museums are there for you, they are there to educate the public, not to distinguish between class. it isn't a private collection, it's a public exhibit.

I own a rock shop. A lady came in about three years ago and asked me which crystals are best for healing, I gently explained that they didn't have powers or healing properties. She started crying. She had late-stage cancer and no medical treatments were working. A crystal-healer had told her the only thing that would save her were crystals, then proceeded to convince her to spend $2000 on what realistically was only maybe $50 worth of Arkansas Quartz. She had two months to live, and was being strung along by scammers who gave her false hope in exchange for her life savings. I had indirectly just told this woman she was going to die, and it was hitting her all at once. Unfortunately, stuff like this is a regular occurrence. Maybe that’s my worst story, but it’s something I encounter on a weekly basis at least. Rocks, Minerals, and crystals are cool as hell but they don’t have powers. They aren’t mystical or special. I’m sorry for going off on a rant about this but it’s frustrating and it can ruin people’s lives.

it’s funny watching people assume that mamdani must have used AI or something to be able to pronounce chinese tones so well, meanwhile i had a conversation with the pakistani man at my local store a while back and he proudly told me that being a native urdu speaker meant that he could pronounce pretty much everything and he once won a bet by immediately nailing the pronunciation of his chinese coworker’s name so no i don’t think it’s AI i think he’s just fluent in several languages that help out with other languages because that’s kinda how languages work.

now… to be very fair, pakistani store man is ridiculously good at everything. each time i go down for groceries he casually reveals yet another hidden talent that he has. last week i discovered that he is a brilliant artist who kindly offered to help me work on the anatomy of the anime boys i’ve been drawing. thankfully he has never watched naruto so this was not embarassing for me. i forgot ehat i was talking about. oh yeah average native urdu speaker might not actually be better equipped at learning chinese jack of all trades georg who can pronounce every language flawlessly and might possibly be some kind of ancient wizard is an outlier adn should not be counted.

i mean. it kinda does make sense since hindustani is already chock full of phonemes due to being a fusion of samskrtam/prākrit and farsi, both of which have different phoneme sets so hindustani has both,

and urdu im guessing uses the farsi phonemes more frequently than hindi does due to being a more farsi-fied language

AND theres a lot of phonemes similar to mandarin

so tbh that man was already well equipped to nail the chinese name, but how he caught the tones w/o prior knowledge is beyond me :P
