Tentacle Rack: Scheduled Downtime

Okay, just kidding. But we are going on holiday for most of November, so based on prior experience, the tentacle rack is likely to fall over, it has some kind of sixth sense.

Given the global roaming bill I racked up while I was in Fiji and the tentacle rack went down - well I am not enabling global roaming this time and i don't consider the rack falling over an emergency and we won't be doing international tech support.

If the rack goes down, the following may or may not happen.

1) Emily will reboot the router when she gets home and notices the internet isn't working, Emily is NOT to be bugged for tech support. Note: rebooting the router generally fixes the problem.
2) Thorfy has a key to the house, he also has a young child, he may or may not fix the rack if and when he feels like it. He should however be the first point of contact if there are issues.
3) We will fix it when we get home (21st November).

Vurt recovery

Vurt is mostly recovered.

Shell access is back, no home directory data was lost.

Email is back, and no emails were lost (though impatient mail servers may have sent complaints while we were off the air)

Web serving and webmail access is back, but if you have weird stuff in your personal web space, things may be missing that stop it working. If that's the case, please let me know and I'll fix it.

As a bonus, vurt now has more memory and CPU than it did before. So if it seems slow, it's probably Telstra's fault. :)

vurt outage

Vurt is down. Not sure exactly why, but we're working on recovering it. Might not be properly back for a couple of days, but we'll make restoring mail the priority.

Downtime

First of all - I'd like to proudly announce that vurt.net did not fall over the whole time we were on holiday - that has to be a first!

Secondly - yup - it was down yesterday and its still down today. There appear to be some load balancing issues and Bear will deal with it when he gets home from work. He spent close to an hour trying to fix it this morning with the result that we were both late for work.

EDIT: Bear has fixed it! All hail the mighty Bear!
