Summary:
The days grow cold fast in autumn. Nothing better than a cup of tea and a space heater of a husband to help with that.

As autumn sets in, the morning breeze starts to take on more of a bite. That doesn’t stop Hawks and Dabi from sitting on their porch and enjoying the view of their field, and of the sheep happily grazing. The cold settles deep between Hawks’ feathers and he shivers, though that’s not enough for him to consider taking out the big winter jacket just yet. Why would he, when he has two sources of heat at hand? A warm cup of tea between his palms, and a fire quirk user sitting next to him.

He cups the ceramic container, relishing its gentle warmth, and scoots closer to his space heater of a husband. A wing closes gently around Dabi, subtly redirecting his heat toward Hawks. Perfect.

“I know exactly what you’re doing,” Dabi says, still looking straight ahead.

Then he sips from his own cup, humming appreciatively.

“Protecting my husband from the dangerous, bitter cold winds of the mountains,” Hawks lies cheerfully before changing the topic. “Isn’t this tea delicious, with Suzuki’s honey?”
“I prefer green tea in the morning… but yeah, the honey goes really well with this black tea.”

Hawks nods. He himself prefers coffee in the morning, or afternoon, or really at any point of the day or night. However ever since Dabi hooked him onto tea, Hawks has been enjoying experimenting with various kinds.

The best tea is the one Dabi makes for him, but he’ll never admit that. Both to avoid Dabi gloating, and because it would be particularly sappy.

Maybe he’ll say it anyway. The important thing with doing “sappy” is to catch Dabi off-guard first so that Hawks can make him flush. Those moments get tougher to create as the years pass though. The curse of married life. Hawks grins and snuggles closer to Dabi.

The wind brought onto their field many brown and orange leaves from the neighbouring forest. The sheep doesn’t seem to mind, and the forest itself looks absolutely stunning in glorious autumn colours. Hawks will never tire of that view, or the person he gets to enjoy it with.

“Suzuki asked me if I wanted to help him with the beekeeping,” he continues. “I’m thinking of learning. We could make tea with our own honey, soon!”

Dabi frowns, and Hawks un-snuggles a little to see his expression better.

“What’s wrong?”

For a moment, Dabi seems to be struggling with his words, looking genuinely concerned.

“What if that means you start growing bee wings instead of feathers, after spending too much time with bees?”

Hawks blinks slowly.

There are many possible replies to this. For example, that is in no way shape or form how Hawks’ quirk works? If this were how the world worked, they’d both be growing wool, if anything? Hawks imagines, or maybe remembers, a winged sheep for a moment, and shakes his head.

Then he takes in a deep breath, and replies just as seriously.

“Won’t you still love me, even with small buzzing bee wings?”
“I don’t know,” Dabi replies, sounding pained. “It sounds really noisy.”

Hawks swats him in the face with the feathery wing currently cocooning Dabi’s other side, and Dabi snickers as he pushes it away.

“I guess you wouldn’t be able to swat me like that anymore, so maybe it’ll be okay.” Dabi turns away from the beautiful sight of their field to face him instead. “Maybe I’ll still love you.” Hawks can tell he’s aiming for snarky, but the tone totally fails. Dabi went sappy on them first, and Hawks grins stupidly.

“Forever,” Dabi adds before leaning over for a soft kiss.

A sheep bleats happily somewhere in the field, as if the moment couldn’t be any more perfect. With a happy sigh, Hawks turns to enjoy the view again. Without another word, Dabi leans closer to Hawks and lowers his head against his before sliding an arm behind Hawks’ back to bring him closer.

His quirk is tuned up to keep Hawks warm. Hawks takes another sip of tea, and smiles.
