Today (or yesterday for some people), the season finale of Supernatural has aired. I never really wanted to fill this blog with long discussions about it so I just raged and cried over twitter after every episode lol. But now that the season is -finally- over, I want to dedicate this post to the ranting I wanted to do all season long.
1. Since the start of the season, and the introduction of The Darkness, we never really got to learn what this character was capable of, and what danger it could bring. The Winchesters only moved based on what Death told them in the last season finale, which was only a story and not much of why God locked her in the first place.
2. The number 1 bad choice category of the season was all the characters they brought back and the purposes they had. The damage that came back from all these useless comebacks was unnecessary. Releasing Lucifer from the cage made Sam Sacrifice go for nothing, he should've stayed there in the cage, and I sure as hell didn't enjoy having Pellegrino again. Metatron, who should've been dead a while ago came back for nothing again, and had a redemption that Dean killer didn't deserve. Chuck was the worst. The deepest fall the show has ever took, and making Amara his sister. Implementing the stupid fan theory of Chuck, the prophet of the lord, being God shows nothing but a weak ability of writers to create their own theories without listening to fandom, in my opinion. I could go on till tomorrow about this issue.
3. Castiel.
4. Castiel again. I hate how many chances this ugly creature has been given, I hate how he's a useless accessory played very poorly by the actor (sorry not sorry) that the show kept hanging on for no reason for many seasons. I never wished he never came back S06 more than I did now. He made a huge mistake riding Lucifer out of the cage, and instead of killing him off or accusing him for all the roads he took he get thanked, and all the blame gets thrown at the characters that matter the most.
Lucifer didn't help capturing Amara, so what all of that was for? Why did my eyeballs have to suffer watching Misha licking his tongue pretending to be Pellegrino? Why do they keep trying to make him important when he's clearly important to be killed? Making Dean and Sam look like babysitters trying to chase him around and save his ass just for him to screw them over again? Even more than this having Dean calling him family. UGH.
5. Fan service was probably present this season more than any other time. I felt personally embarrassed that the line "Assbutt" was brought back, stupid line that made no sense for Cas to use again. The episode "Baby", and as much as I like the episode, I have to admit that it was a big fat patting on the back for fans and filling for their request, which Robbie Thompson felt like it was his mission to do every time they give him an episode to write, starting with wrighting "Baby", to having Sam apologizing to Dean for S08, and ending with making Chuck God and bringing back the Samulet. And it's not only him to blame, to be honest, everyone involved in writing that mythic story line had a touch in making this season so cheesy.
6. The writers developed the mythic story line by making Sam and Dean side characters, more than that, they have done both of the brothers wrong and didn't write them as they are. There were so many OOC moments, where Dean was too worried about the stupid angel who let his brother's abuser ride him out of hell, or making him way too accepting to Sam's decision to bear The Mark of Cain knowing by experience how much it destroys a person, while few episodes ago he almost made a deal with a reaper to sacrifice himself for Sam, or ignoring the whole fact that he spend 40 years in hell and letting Jensen create his moment in the script of making Dean afraid of going back, Sam also wasn't the guy who hopped up to be his brother's right hand, or be the guy who would never agree to civilizing with Lucifer, or making him more protestant against Dean's decision of being the bomb against Amara, or making him less smart than he actually is. Like hell! Real Sam would've killed Amara himself instead of letting his brother explode himself to get rid of her, Real Dean would've locked Sam in a cellar instead of letting him take The Mark. The plot of this season was more about the fights and the battles of other characters while giving the brothers uninteresting cameo appearances.
7. Castiel.
8. Giving an appearance to God was useless, the most useless unforgivable thing they have ever done. Chuck wasn't supposed to be God, he was supposed to be the writer prophet who disappeared after he wrote Swan Song and DID NOT come back to that stupid musical. God was supposed to stay as the absent father, the one they couldn't reach. God was supposed to be the one who knew nothing because he wasn't there to watch. Dean and Sam were supposed to be angry, they were supposed to let him go back to where he came from because he didn't stop the apocalypse, didn't save Sam when he took the mission of closing hell, didn't take his place from Metatron when he did what he did and killed Dean and simply gave no damn about nothing.
9. The great thing about the season finale is that it proved that there was no point of the whole season. Nobody died, Amara wasn't a great danger to anyone or anything except her bro, Amara didn't kill God like she wanted, God didn't kill her like he needed to, they just held hand and went back up leaving things to Sam and Dean like a God and a sister of him would normally do.
10. Last but not least, Castiel.
I don't know what else to say or add. I'm sure I forgot a lot of things and maybe it's best that I did. I love my show and I'm so sad that it is being creating by people who don't care about the beauty of the story and the brothers who are the heart of the show.
On a short positive note, the Monster of The Week episode this season were glorious, the best we've seen in seasons. Safe House and Red Meat go easily in my top 20 favorite episodes of the whole series, they had all the essence the show is about, two brother who love each other more than the world and sacrifice themselves for each other if it was what they had to do, hunt monsters together and ride a beautiful car from a place to other and be each other's home and family with no need for any useless characters stealing the scenes. I love my show too much to quit, I'll chocolate cake every episode I don't like as long as I get to have these beautiful boys in my face 8 months a year.
I obviously love talking, so feel free to leave a comment so we can discuss more.
Ciao.
