Heyo! This is your not so friendly, definitely aggressive reminder that censorship is censorship. You don't get to say you're anti-censorship and then say some shit like... bUt NoT tHaT tHiNg, It MaKeS mE uNcOmFy. That's censorship.

It's baffling to me how many of y'all just don't understand that.

No censorship means NO censorship. Scroll past or block the shit that isn't for you.

Yeah if you haven't locked your fics down and made it so only registered users can comment (to prevent ai scraping and scams comments which only worked for a while) I'd do it just to preemptively spare you grief with the Wattpad influx because these people are absolutely certified heinously absurd. It might stall the comments for a while, they will get accounts eventually (if they ever figure out how or someone gives them an invite), but it will give you some relief if you write for ANY megafandom, if you write anything more "edgy" than angst, write any kink of any flavor, or write ships that aren't popular. They will come for you like a 12 year old that is used to being bribed to go away and coddled.

people whining about kinktober actually being kinky, dark and taboo is so funny to me. like what do you think KINKtober is about? do you not know cnc kink and other taboo kinks are the most common and popular kinks? if it were vanilla it wouldn’t be called a kinktober babe.

anyway I hope writers have a fun and sexy time participating in this year’s kinktober! be wild my beloved soldiers

Wattpad users: AO3 is an archive. It collects fanworks. You curate your own reading by learning to use the search function, checking boxes on what you want or don't want to read. There are several guides already circulating around on how to use AO3, not to mention the FAQ on the site itself. There is no app for AO3 because the site works well.

There will be themes and genres that give you the ick but your disgust is not the same as morality or standards. You don't have to read those fics. Just go back to your search and look at the tags for what you want. The archive is for everyone who creates fanworks. Lurk and learn how to use it, and appreciate that you get no ads whatsoever. Take ownership of your fanwork experience and be polite.

AO3 writers: lock down your accounts. Whenever we get an influx of new people barging around like entitled tourists in a small artisan eatery, we end up with a headache. Those who learn to behave will eventually get their chance to enjoy the really good stuff, and the petulant loudmouths will leave full of complaints because they didn't get their way, and that is how it should be.

AO3 volunteers: thank you guys for bearing the brunt of any nonsense that's coming your way

lmao if this person is talking about ao3, I am almost a hundred percent sure that they are straight up lying. because ao3 explicitly and specifically allows dark/taboo fics that were banned on other platforms.

ao3 was literally created with the main goal of being fully anti censorship and allowing fics that were deemed dark, problematic, disgusting, messed up, taboo. so no, ao3 won’t take a fic down for being dark, problematic, disgusting, messed up or taboo. those fics are the exact reason why ao3 was created in the first place. (x)

unless a fic actually violates ao3’s rules—by being a stolen work, mentioning money, donation, commission, or not actually being fanfic, original work, or fanwork—ao3 will not take any fic down.

so if this person is talking about “getting fanfics taken down from ao3”, it’s one of these cases:

  • they’re lying
  • the fics actually violate ao3’s terms of service, but this has nothing to do with whether or not they’re dark/taboo fics
  • the authors chose to delete the fics themselves

here’s the list of things you need to know if you’re new to ao3
