hi, i'm miyou! graphic designer by day, smashing fictional barbies together by night ... and also on company time. when i'm not rping, i watch a ton of documentaries and docuseries — most of which usually involve serial killers, cults, heists, or fraud, but i'll watch just about anything about anything if it sounds interesting! i love learning and researching new things (that's my librarian gene jumping out) and often get lost in the wikipedia mines or scouring academic articles for One Specific Thing or else i'll explode. my brain quite literally cannot leave a question unanswered.
i majored in japanese studies in college and lived in japan for 4 months during my senior year, but after i graduated i took a long break from anything japan-related. the one piece live action got me back into animanga after a decade or so (the prodigal fujoshi returns) and i've recently started to brush up on my japanese a little through translating one piece fan comics 😂
other than that, i'm moderately involved in fandom, though i don't do as much creating as i used to since rp is my main outlet. fandoms i'm currently into or that will probably come up on my plurk, in no particular order:

i've loved winnie the pooh since i was a teeny tiny wee miyou and while attempting to censor myself in front of my parents, i'd say poohsticks instead of "shit" or something equally vulgar 😂 and i simply think the game of poohsticks is adorable. they hold the world poohsticks championships every year in england!▶ where did the name miyou come from?
gaia online is the first place i used it on the internet, but it originated in high school between my friend group. we were all taking japanese and our teacher had us pick japanese names — thankfully, i'd already crowdsourced my new nickname via email asking all my friends to vote on a name. miyouko kawakami was the winner, but over time i've realized how cringe that is and dropped it to just miyou. sidenote: i realize miyouko is spelled wrong. i was like 16 and thought it looked better with the extra u. however, miyou with the u is a real japanese name with several different kanji combinations, my favorites being: 光陽 (ray of sunshine) and 美洋 (beautiful ocean)▶ what's a mongoliabun?
a friend of mine had chinese bootleg yu-gi-oh dvds we used to watch and, naturally, the subtitles were a little fucked up. there were some pretty hilarious mistranslations or just nonsense, including kaiba calling jounouchi "mongolia bun" — which i think was meant to be a translation of one of the many ways kaiba calls jounouchi an idiot lmao and if i somehow misremembered this inside joke for 25 years i will simply expire▶ any claims to fandom fame?
i wrote the first ever hartmon (cisco/hartley) fic. that's about it, but i'll take it!i've been rping since around 2003 — starting out on forums like invisionfree as well as a brief foray into AIM rp — until i was introduced to ljrp by a friend of mine around 2009. since then, i've been in a variety of games, from horror to smut and everything in between. you might know me from some of my greatest hits! or check out my muselist.

sabo (one piece)i love musicals. i was never a theater kid (marching band represent), but i was friends with plenty of them in high school. and, yes, we were Those Kids who had rent sing-along watch parties. i don't know when exactly my obsession with musical theater started — my best guess is the production of cats my high school put on, which i saw probably 5 or 6 times (and not just to support my friends) — but the seed had been planted much earlier in my childhood through the musical movies of old hollywood. i grew up on movies like seven brides for seven brothers, on the town, guys and dolls, and fiddler on the roof. these are still some of my all-time favorite movies and musicals.

the height of early aughts chronically online teen humor eventually led me to avenue q ("if you were gay" was Thee song of the moment) — and through my south park hyperfixation i discovered book of mormon. once i saw my first professional production (the tour of avenue q — for my birthday!), there was no going back. at some point after i went on a musical deep dive, downloading tons of cast recordings like chess and urinetown and so much more. the more obscure, the better.
by college, i fell in love with sondheim. i was familiar with his work on sweeney todd (if you've never been jumpscared by That Whistle, try falling asleep with the menu of the 1982 proshot playing all night), but i hadn't really been interested in his other works until an rp friend of mine who played hetalia america introduced me to assassins. it hooked me so much i requested the libretto through interlibrary loan because i needed to consume everything about this musical. i've seen assassins twice now: once as a regional production, and once off-broadway nearly ten years later.
my first broadway show was dear evan hansen, a show that completely changed my life. before it closed in 2022, i was fortunate enough to see it 5 times on broadway, featuring a range of evans from andrew barth-feldman to jordan fisher. on tour, i saw it another 4 or 5 times. i've followed the cast (both original and replacements) to other musicals and projects and i can't wait to see what they all do next.
