What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

That's what I hear anyway.  I have no personal coolness experience.

Orange honeysuckle and bougainvillea explosion!  

...in the first apartment I ever had by myself.

Wow, is that a shitty looking tree.  I said so then, and I say so now.  XD

Bougainvillea...the joy and bane of the backyard.  So beautiful, but those thorns...oy.

Don't ask me how she can sleep amid such a noisy assortment of colors!  :)  Poor mistreated bug!  

Long Beach produced both me and also gangsta rap, so that should tell you generally what kind of place we're talking about here.  It is, however, also a very interesting place if you are a fan of architecture, which I kind of am.  So I thought I'd share some of my photos from a pleasant day of wandering thereabout.  Long Beach was nearly taken out completely by earthquakes in 1933 and 1949, so the older buildings are all real survivors.

Here's a few sights on Ocean Blvd, the main east-west thoroughfare that parallels, you guessed it, the ocean.

Galaxy Towers.  Can't you feel the vintage "oh so modern" vibe?

...a warm spring day, a pretty park, some birds...recipe for happiness!

Cherry blossoms!  Cheaper than a trip to DC!


Visitors from the Great White North...


Great blue heron...there's a pair that lives in the park.  So elegant...and eerily like dinosaurs somehow.


Some summers, this is nothing but a bed of cracked mud.  But so far so good.

There's a special installation at the Orange County Museum of Art...



It's called..."Bad Dog."   It occasionally sprays yellow paint from the appropriate orifice onto the museum.



The dog is a boy.



We now leave the rarefied world of art and return you to whatever low-brow activity you were engaged in.

...seeing a Rottweiler puppy repeatedly run over on the freeway.  I'm pretty sure it was already dead by the time I caught sight of it.  But it was pretty much intact, so it's falling from whatever vehicle it was riding in was a recent event.  I'm sure it's just a smudge and a few tufts of black and tan fur by now.  It's rush hour, and there are so many cars.  I cried all the way to work.  Poor little thing.  :(
