it doesn't bother me all that much. a film adaptation can never be a word-for-word, scene-for-scene duplication of what was in the book, so if the scriptwriters want to spin it a little differently, it's like a work of fanfic as far as i'm concerned. sometimes i like the movie better than the original book. sometimes i have seen the movie first and later read the book, and there is a little bit of dissonance--but once again, it's interesting to see how a work in one medium is translated into another. i like to see the bones of the process showing through.
