It further strikes me one of the things that’s so significant about Boba and Din’s interaction, is that Boba Fett lost his armor, but explained to Din that it had been his father’s, who had been given it by a Mandalorian, which Din realizes makes him a Foundling, much like Din himself. Boba tells him that Jango fought in the Mandalorian wars. Din was raised in the Fighting Corps. There’s a whole lot of parallels going on there! This is a lot closer to what Din is familiar with when it comes to Mandalorians.
So, when we see Din handing back the armor to Boba, saying it belongs to him, even after Boba lost it, even after Boba’s helmet was removed, he doesn’t object to Boba putting the helmet back on. Agrees that the armor belongs to him.
Whether Din eventually stays with his religious belief that the helmet never comes off in front of other people or if he decides that he can take it off and put it back on whenever he likes, he’s taken the step forward that it’s a choice he makes. Whether that’s to acknowledge that there are other ways of being a Mandalorian but he retains his beliefs or whether he decides to change, this is an important moment where Din felt a connection, a kinship with a Mandalorian who wasn’t exactly the same as himself, someone who had the armor removed and then was allowed to put it back on.
