the fucked-up part is that I specifically notice this in like, BIPOC or queer romances because their authors a) are more likely to be harassed online b) tend to care about writing inclusive and intersectional books more, both of which are totally valid reasons, but unfortunately a book that is scared to be misunderstood is also scared to challenge the reader or allow for too much nuance or grey areas or character flaws and I am sorry to say that it often makes for less compelling stories because it means shying away from ambiguities and complexities in an effort to reassure me, the reader, that everyone here is a Good Person engaging in Healthy Behaviours and Relationships

I wish I knew any thoughts to share! I never know how or what to talk about when it comes to things I’ve written. in lieu of any deep thoughts, some fun facts:

  • the whole fic is structured like a traditional romance novel. if you enjoyed the drama and third-act-breakup, you may enjoy that section of the bookstore. when armand says, “it’s a romance,” he’s also talking about the story he’s currently in! the swapping of genres is what this fic is built upon.
  • there are a few scenes throughout iwtv where daniel reads out loud from his own books. i listened to those on repeat for ages trying to get the cadence of his writing style down so I could write the afterword in ch5 properly, only for the s3 teaser to tease the in-universe iwtv book, which now has a totally different writing style. I’m not bitter about it at all!!!
  • there was a decently long sequel mostly written centering daniel’s book tour and his interviewing of lestat for tvl, but I cannot for the life of me write lestat well so that went away. eventually i will edit and post the short oneshot sequel from daniel’s daughter’s POV that I am mostly happy with!
  • this is the only fic i have written that was planned, outlined, and edited. it was a lot of work and i will never do it again
