Valencia have secured the future of Santiago Canizares after agreeing a new two-year contract with the veteran goalkeeper.

Canizares, 37, has put pen to paper on a new deal that will see him remain at the Mestalla until summer 2009.

"This whole process has been wonderful and in these next two years I hope we can enjoy some more great moments," said Canizares.

"I want to thank president Juan Soler who has made it possible that I can continue at Valencia.

"Two of my three children are Valencian and we wanted to keep them here.

"On a personal level I have had some very good moments in my time at Valencia, although today might have been among the best."

Um, crossposted to my own LJ, so sorry if anybody sees repeats on their f-list.

1. Carboni is getting closer and closer to obtaining Del Horno. Hey, there are worse signings he could have made. Can still make. :O Obafemi Martins, for one. C fucking Ronaldo, for another. (The worst part about that last rumor is that Quique apparently is really enamored with the kid. HASdfj)

2. Yesterday was Vicente's birthday, and he celebrated it by scoring the winning goal in the friendly match against the Go Ahead Eagles. Felicidades, y amunt!

3. Re: friendly, apparently the team struggled in the first half, and went down a goal, but started to play better in the second half. Mista scored Valencia's first goal, and Morientes and Silva combined well on numerous occasions. And speaking of Silva, I never knew that such a sickly looking kid could be so deadly on the pitch. I almost forgot he was ours; The first time I saw him play was for Spain vs Argentina in the WYC last summer, and he looked good then, albeit about to puke all over his boots. But yeah, I guess after playing first team football with Celta all last season, he's improved his physical game a lot. The only problem is, he's got to get past Vicente and Regueiro in order to even get a game, unless he's got opposite wing powers we didn't know about.

4. The next preseason friendly is vs Fenerbahce on Thursday, and the presentation ceremony/match is vs Charlton Athletic at the Mestalla, on July 29.

5. The new kits are very plain, and thus very very attractive after last season's retardo Nike template.

HEYY EVERYBODY!!

I'm so glad to have found a community for Valencia CF fans! I thought there wasn't any community for this club and ALMOST wanted to create one. Thank God I found it and yea, I joined! New to this club because I am such a big fan of David Villa and Morienties, our new player to the club!

Morientes Joins Valencia



Spanish striker Fernando Morientes completed his move from Liverpool to Valencia on Thursday after passing a medical with the Primera Liga club.

The 30-year-old has signed a three-year deal for a reported fee of 6 million euros. Morientes left Liverpool less than a year and a half after arriving from Real Madrid.
