ROTM - Death Row
Thanks to extensive lobbying, being a jerk, liar, adulterer, cheat or general ass is a capital offense, punishable by death. You need to give the closing argument in a trial, either your own or someone you know, trying to either convict them, or save them from Death Row.
Nick threw his head back and whined, "I don't wanna play this game anymore..." Had he not been tied to the chair, he would have gotten up to do something else. Anything else.
"Is that your closing argument?" Nick's ten year old sister, Rachel, put her hands on her hips and tapped her foot. She was the youngest of the girls, only two years older than Nick, but damn, she may have been the pushiest one out of the entire lot. Naturally, she would be the one to prosecute her younger brother for being a "complete dweeb".
"No." Nick gave her a look. He would not go down like this. "Don't I get a lawyer?" He over at his other sister, Nancy, who was playing the role of the judge.
"Nope, you had your chance for that ten minutes ago." She smirked and gave Nick a second chance to defend himself. "You may continue."
"Why do I ALLL-ways have to be the criminal? Why can't Rachel be on trial? It's not fair." Nick squirmed around on the chair, trying to wiggle free from the jump ropes.
"Judge Nancy, Nicky's trying to escape." She crossed her arms and shifted her weight to tap the other foot.
"That's it." The honorable judge banged on the table with a toy hammer. "It's time to hear what a jury of your peers has to say." The two girls turned to look at a line of Barbie dolls.
He rolled his eyes. "They are NOT my peers."
"Guilty!!" Nancy banged on the table again.
"Nuh uh! No way!" Nick protested and threw his entire body to his right, flipping the chair over with a thud. Laying on his side, he began whining again. "I don't want to play anymore!"
"You have been found guilty, your crimes punishable by law, and I hereby sentence you and your associates to death. Bailiff! The bear, please." Rachel, who was also the bailiff for this little game of theirs, grinned and set a scraggly looking bear on the floor. Next, she handed a dictionary to her sister and took a seat, obviously pleased that she won the case.
"Stop it! Give him back!" Nick screamed as Nancy stood up from the table and held the dictionary over the old bear.
"What in the world are you kids doing?" The children's mother finally appeared after hearing all the yelling. She took one look at the scene and shook her head. Crossing her arms, very much in the same way Rachel had done earlier, she looked at the girls. "Nancy, put that down, and the both of you, untie your brother."
As soon as he was free, Nick rescued his poor bear from the floor. Hugging it tight, he ran over to his mother.
"Mama, they were gonna kill me. And Woobie." Nick pouted with a little sniff.
Jill sighed gave her son a sympathetic smile as she smoothed his hair.
After a talk with her husband later that night, the Stokes children were forever banned from playing courthouse. Any infraction, thereafter, would be punishable by death.
