From the Usdan facebook page:

"Elliott Bean, longtime and beloved conductor of Usdan's Senior Chorus, passed away on January 2nd. Elliott conducted memorable performances at the old "Assembly" building, and at the McKinley Amphitheater. His studio was alive with energy, as Elliott coaxed and cajoled his students toward the highest possible artistic ...goals, while also caring for them with the affection of a parent. His chosen successor, Karen Lehman, now carries on these traditions. Elliott's favorite Usdan tradition was the annual end-of-season performance of "We Are One". These performances will be recreated at his funeral on Tuesday, January 5th, at Setauket Methodist Church in East Setauket NY. Elliott will long be remembered at Usdan. Do. Do Re Mi. Do Re Mi Re Do.......

Elliott Bean, beloved conductor of Usdan's Senior Chorus, passed away on January 2nd. Please see the article below. A wake for Mr. Bean will take place on Monday, January 4th, from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM, and again from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM at Bryant Funeral Home, 411 Old Town Road, East Setauket, Phone: 631-473-0082. A funera...l will take place on Tuesday, January 5th, at Setauket Methodist Church in East Setauket NY."

I stayed at Usdan every summer until I was 18 because of Mr. Bean and the wonderful chorus program he nurtured. Every great memory from my childhood summer included Mr. Bean. I will miss him tremendously.

A newbie here!

Hi everyone! My name is Laura and I'm not is USDAN yet but I hope to be next summer. My dad and I took a tour of it yesterday and I really love that place - the aura of it is so different than anything I've ever seen before. I plan to major in drama and minor in writing and I think USDAN  will help me reach my voice-over career. Also one of the councelors in the office told us that that there's a boy in 7th grade who's interested in doing voice-overs or who has lessons in it at the camp? Could someone shed some light on that if they know that person? Thanks. USDAN sounds like an awesome place. I hope I'll make some friends there. I can start doing that here lol.

performers needed for new music festival!

Hey,

I think a lot of you are probably musicians so...yes. I am an organizer for a new music festival called Make Music New York. On June 21st, 2007, the entire city of New York (all five boroughs) will be covered in music. Professional and amateur musicians will fill up sidewalks, parks, and community gardens, making public space throughout the five boroughs impromptu musical stages, dance floors, and social meeting points. We have a permit that will allow musicians to perform in any outdoor area of their choice within the city.

This event is based on a worldwide music festival often called Fete de la Musique (it originated in Paris in 1982) that takes place in over 250 cities every year. For some reason, this celebration of live, free music has not made its way to New York until this year.

Because this is a new festival we need as much help as possible. If you would like to perform or if you know anyone who would be interested in performing, please e-mail me at sarah@makemusicny.org. I am specifically in charge of organizing world music artists, but I will find performance space for musicians of any genre. All performers will be listed in local New York City newspapers and posters will be provided.

If you would like more information about Make Music New York, please visit our website: www.makemusicny.org. Once again, if you have any questions or would like to sign up (!), please email me at sarah@makemusicny.org

Brief Introduction

Wow. I just happened to stumble across this community tonight in a bit of nostalgia, remembering back when I was hanging out with all my cool friends from other schools on Long Island... I had a great time all those years ago, and am one of those "old school" folks from the 5 summers of 1984 through 1989.

My name is Beth, and I'm a former Band major (I, II, and III), as well as Video (the year the studios opened), and Orchestra (IV). I played piccolo and flute, and minored in Painting (2x), Chorus, and Creative Writing (2x). I used to hang out with some pretty cool people from Ward Melville High School (would have been the class of 1990 through 1992 or so), as well as friends I made from that summer in the Video class.

It's been some years, and USDAN brings back some great memories. I'm glad to see that the place is still going strong, and would be interested in hearing about how the place has changed (aside from the new assembly over by the bus depot... Wow.... big change from the assembly area where you couldn't hear a *thing* when it rained....).

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, everyone.

I attended Usdan for 6 years (god I feel old). I was there from age 10 to age 15. I'm now 19 and Usdan has offered me a job working with the orchestra.

Have any of you been in the orchestra?? What's it like? What is Gary Hodges like? These are things I must consider before giving them an answer. lol

Hey everyone! How's your year been? Only about 4 months until Usdan...can't wait! This summer will probably be my last summer (it's a rep summer for me!) because I'm going to be going to Europe next year for my sweet sixteen, and maybe doing some intellectual programs at Yale, Harvard, Brown or UPenn. Exciting, huh? So yeah, this summer better be the best summer of my life, because it's my last summer to really have fun at summer camp before trying to get into college.
