Wedding Elves--Budget-Friendly Wedding Site!

Hey!

Wedding Elves is now live; we're still putting finishing touches on the site here and there, but in general, we're ready to take on the task of torpedoing the average cost of an American wedding.  Our site shows you where to get beautiful and inexpensive flowers, gowns, veils, and vendors--and it's all totally free!  (We'll be adding vase rentals, candlestick rentals, and placecard holder rentals to our site later on, so you can save even more!)  We're based out of Troy, and are excited to be up and running!  Good luck to all of you brides and grooms out there, and may you not need to start your lives together in debt!

Intro and Location Question

Name/LJ handle: Lindsey
Role in wedding: Bride
Wedding date: Tentatively, August 29,2009 or September 5, 2009
Location of wedding/reception: This is my question
Unique information about your wedding planning so far: My FH, RJ, and I were just engaged about two weeks ago, although we've both known it was coming for a while. We were going to plan a small wedding for next summer. The more I think about planning and keeping it small, I just don't want a wedding at all. So at the end of this summer we are renting a limo, grabbing our two best friends, having a quickie ceremony somewhere and then cruising around in the limo for the rest of the night. That's just how we roll. I guess you can't really call it eloping, because it's planned, but that's the idea.
Your "How we met" story: I met him at a party where I'd been promised there would be a TON of cute guys. I got there and, very disappointed, told my friend he "would do" if no one else cute showed up. We chatted a bit that night and parted ways. We ran into each other the next night and have been inseparable ever since. I'm perpetually amused by my first impression of him, because now there's no one in the world I would rather be with or that I could be closer to.

So, basically, FH and I are both very shy people who get uncomfortable in the spotlight, but have a blast no matter what we are doing when it's just the two of us. We want our wedding to be about us enjoying each other and celebrating the commitment we're making to each other. We want to have fun. We do not want to feel uncomfortable or stressed out. So yesterday, while attending his cousin's very traditional wedding, we decided to rent a limo, find a lovely outdoor location for a quick ceremony with only my "maid of honor" and his "best man" present and then cruise around in the limo and celebrate with our best friends.

As far as the location of the ceremony itself, we're not very picky. We live in Plattsburgh, NY but would be willing to travel about an hour or so (time for some champagne in the limo!). We'd like someplace outdoors and pretty. There's a gazebo on the lake in Plattsburgh that a lot of people use for weddings/prom pictures, and we may just end up doing this, but I'd love to hear about any spots I'm not aware of. Thanks!

P.S., it doesn't have to be a traditional outdoor venue for a wedding. If there's some beautiful piece of public land that you know about, especially in a tree-filled/woodsy area, that would suffice. We just want to meet up with a JP, exchange some vows and rings, and get on with the fun.

Introducing Wedding Elves!

Hey, Upstate NY Brides!

We're a soon-to-be-live new site called Wedding Elves, (dedicated to having elegant weddings on a realistic budget,) and we're based out of the Capital District of NY.  Before we present our new online face to the world though, we'd like to posit some ideas to you, our potential customers.

Without further ado, here's a link to a survey we've put together (we used a free-but-secure third-party survey site in order to keep costs down,) and we'd greatly appreciate it if you could take the time to give a wee startup some much-needed feedback.  Thanks in advance!

Survey: Would you consider renting incidental decorations (i.e. pew bows/placecard holders/vases,) for your wedding?

If there's something in particular you'd love to be able to rent for one night (for less than purchasing the same thing would cost,) or, by the same token, something you'd *never* want to rent, we want to hear about it; please let us know in the comments!  Thanks again!

Another Upstate Bride?

I joined a few months ago, then life threw quite a few curves. Then I was just going back through old posts and realized I never posted!

Name/LJ handle: mishmosh been a user since 2001. :D

Role in wedding: Bridezilla

Wedding date: October 18, 2008

Location of wedding/reception: The Major's Inn in Gilbertsville (about a 45 minute drive from Binghamton)

Unique information about your wedding planning so far: I am making personalized favors for every single one of my guests with their name on it...it's a beaded key ring with a mostly hand painted wooden charm

Your "How we met" story: We met through his friend Nate on myspace in Spring 2006, who had friended me first, then turned around and told Jason about me. I hadn't made any friends up here yet, and he extended me a dinner invitation that I declined at first. I eventually came to my senses.

But let me point you to his public LJ entry about him proposing (there are pictures!): http://kaine977.livejournal.com/55…

About me...um...I currently live in Syracuse, but in the past two years I've lived in Pulaski, Sandy Creek, Parish, and Hastings. Long story, I'd rather not get into it. I'm originally from Orange County NY (same place the chopper guys are from). That's why the wedding is sort of half way in between upstate and downstate. :)

This community doesn't seem to be to active but with NNY I am not all that surprised.

I'm planning a Watertown, NY wedding for next Oct. from Orlando, FL and need vendor recommendations. If anybody has any bakers, or DJ's they liked who were flexible to work with their names would be awesome. Also does anybody know where I can rent a cotton candy machine?

On to the member survey:

Name/LJ handle: Amanda, Fizzypop_04

Role in wedding: I am the bride.

Wedding date: 10-9-2009

Location of wedding/reception: Wedding: (Fri night) St. Pauls in Watertown, Reception (Sat night) Ramada Inn in Watertown

Unique information about your wedding planning so far: I really want a cotton candy machine at the reception. How do I go about this? Also the theme in Autumn with Disney touches.

Your "How we met" story: We meet at Disney's EPCOT park during there IllumiNations fireworks on EPCOTS 25th. anniversary. I ended up standing alone apart from my room mates so I could see the fireworks and his friends had ditched him to leave early we ended up just talking and it went from there.
