I need to add a new account to Outlook. This account belongs to a postfixmailserver. For POP settings, I set port number 110 for incoming and port number 25 for outgoing mail. As the server doesn't use an encrypted connection and the ports that are available for POP and SMTP are 110 and 25, in the POP setting, set these ports as incoming and outgoing mail. Trying to connect failed with this error:

We couldn't connect to the outgoing SMTP server; please check the outgoing SMTP server setting.

  • oh is POP still supported? I considered it dead ca. 2005… Also, you say "POP", but your tags say "IMAP", that's conflicting. Commented 10 hours ago
  • "As the server doesn't use an encrypted connection" Not an option, sorry, this is just insane. Commented 10 hours ago
  • anyways, definitely not enough information in your question to help you: You will have to tell us the actual settings you did, and how you verified the server is actually reachable. Commented 10 hours ago

(and note that Outlook is not in scope for UNIX/Linux, being windows-only software) Commented 10 hours ago
  • I’m voting to close this question because configuring Outlook is off-topic for U&L. Your question probably belongs on superuser.com Commented 55 mins ago
