I have a Dell Latitude 5300 2-in-1 laptop which has 360 degree screen rotation and can be used as a tablet when rotated 360 degrees. I recently installed Debian Bookworm on it. The problem is that in tablet mode, there is no onscreen keyboard displayed as expected when trying to edit text.
In Windows, the onscreen keyboard worked as expected on this laptop, it popped up automatically while editing a text field and it could be moved / made floating. However, i have not yet found any such solution on Debian Linux.
I installed onboard but it doesn't work. I need to launch it manually. And even then, when i tap any button, it just closes unexpectedly.
I also tried maliit-keyboard. I set the virtual keyboard setting Settings->Input Devices->Virtual Keyboard->Maliit and doing that shows an input icon in the system tray. When i tap that icon it shows the Maliit keyboard but when i dismiss it by swiping down, it is gone for ever. Tapping the system tray icon does nothing. In order to bring the keyboard back on screen, I either need to restart my laptop or i need to set the virtual keyboard to "none" and then "Maliit" again in the system settings. Doing so lets me use maliit only once per restart or enable/disable cycle.
How to resolve this problem?
