Who: Claire and any Editors who'd like to assist her
What: Claire Ryland encounters an unfinished copy of Magica Riot: Full Bloom, and it's up to her and her CR to help her finish it.
When: A few days after the return from After We Break
Where: The Library, and various locations in Portland
Content warnings: As per the store page: "Comic book-style action and mayhem, occasional mild blood/injury, satirical fascism, alcohol use, romantic intimacy, an instance of problematic sensuality, occasional cursing."
A few days after that initial pizza party, Claire Ryland - who didn't have that much trauma to process, even, being herself for the Story - just... vanishes. Those who investigate, or are driven to, will eventually find a book on the floor of the stacks, one that looks like this:

And if someone should then open the book, why, then -
[OOC: Treat this as a mini-story. You can Act or Read as normal; appropriate roles would be various bystanders in Portland, support staff of Starlight or magical girls: PM me about Acting as villains or support staff for the band. This would be a great excuse to pick up Unfinished Maidensong User, Unfinished Artificer, or Unfinished Musician if you'd like! And if you do decide to go Magical Girl, you don't have to have a musical theme, though it's probably best if it's tied to some artistic endeavor.]

When in Doubt, Check the Error Logs
Jun. 5th, 2026 09:45 pmWho: Caine, anybody who wants to help a loser AI that has never had an actual body before
What: Caine's stacking up unknown errors that are causing him to glitch. Turns out he actually needs to eat and sleep now, but he thinks the cues are leftovers from the Story. Needless to say, he's not feeling good.
When: A few days after returning from the totally super cool and not traumatizing at all Story
Where: The Computer Lab
Content warnings: Computer nerdery, Caine being Caine even if he isn't feeling good
( An unknown exception occurred... )

Hope Is A Force Of Will - LIBRARY RETURN
Jun. 5th, 2026 01:30 pmWho: The Editors
What: Back to the Library for a… pizza party?
When: At the end of After We Break
Where: The Library
Content warnings: Please place CWs in headers!
The news has spread; a god has been reborn, the Thing With Feathers now the Soaring Flame. The awake Chosen of the Thing With Feathers had the gaping wound in their soul healed, and a few others Chosen, but one big question remained- would those who were still sleeping be healed too? Would they wake up?
Days passed, and nothing happened- likely to the confusion of some of the Readers. Shouldn’t the Story be over? Would a god being revived be the end? But then, one day, there comes a loud cry from the former temple of the Advocate; the cries are carried out to the street, and then the rest of River’s End. One of the sleeping Chosen just woke up.
And then the Story ends, in a flurry of feathers of countless types, sizes and colors, some of them brightly, cheerfully aflame.
Welcome back, Editors
When the Editors are pulled back to the Library, there are a few things awaiting them. Likely first to be noticed is the giant banner hanging up in the Lobby: “Sorry, We Didn’t Expect It To Be That Bad! We Appreciate You!”
There are some cheerful balloons tied up around it, along with a post-it note stuck on one that says, “I knew it was going to be bad.” There’s a few tables with boxes of pizza and some bottles of soda, along with paper plates and napkins. A sad array of cheeseburgers and overboiled hotdogs also sit nearby, and some buns with the texture of having been microwaved. The pizza is… mediocre. A punch bowl full of something orange and vaguely lemony scented sits with icecubes bobbing in it, with a little handwritten sign of "Enjoy the nutrient slurry! It's home made!". It tastes suspiciously delicious but is difficult to define as any one flavor. And of course a sign detailing that food within the stacks is not acceptable.
The tea cart is of course present in the Lobby again, and once more there's been some ... well, changes, calling them improvements depends on taste. The tea's much too strong instead of too weak, but there's an array of sugar cubes, stale scones, a chewed-on looking box of dog biscuits, and a little bowl of umeboshi.
There's a painted sign in bright primary colors (and a bright green paw print) nailed with an actual nail to the bulletin board that reads "Join us in the Maker Space for Therapeutic Painting!" The room in question has had a space cleared out for a good half-dozen easels, and an assortment of oil and acrylic paints waiting in battered tubes that have clearly seen better days.. as have the paint brushes. But they do all work the way one expects paints to! Like most things made here, the paintings made stick around for quite a while after they're finished, and there's spaces on the walls for people to hang their paintings when they're done.
A 'Ring Bell For Service' sign sits at the help desk, but there's no bell to be found.

The Posthumous Trial of the Veiled Lady
Jun. 1st, 2026 02:53 amWho: Sancho, Chie, Illarion, and Sanguinus.
What: Let's speak with the Veiled Lady this time.
When: After We Break Act 3
Where: Sancho's house on the West end.
Content warnings: Yet more death, depression, and dubious magic.
Sancho had debated on where to try holding this particular seance. He's desperate for it to actually work, and the temple or one of the cemeteries would have a greater pull on the Veiled Lady than his personal residence. But in the end, the privacy and control he has over his own home won out. He has plenty of the Veiled Lady's iconography within his home, and he has not one, but three of the Lady's follower to help call her forth.
Sancho is brusque with his assistants when they arrive, too strung out and concerned with the task at hand to be concerned with social niceties. Illarion and Sanguinus are directed to stand around the circle he has drawn on his library floor and Chie is handed paper and pen to take notes with. There won't be any further ado before Sancho moves to the apex of the circle, opens himself up, and reaches out.

Who: Cinera, other ThingChosen, Chara, anyone who wants to help or interfere!
What: The remaining Chosen of the Thing With Feathers, alongside Chara, try to revive their god
When: Various points during Act 3, culmination a few days before the Story ends

Who: The Assistants, and any Editors currently dead in the Story or using Exit Media Res during.
What: With the Story ongoing, there's things happening back in the Library. Like maintenance.
When: Week 2.
Where: In the library itself.
Content warnings: To Be Determined.
With most, if not all, of the Editors currently dealing with God-based mayhem, the Assistants ... are still at work. Story time just means less attention is being paid to what they're up to! So ignore the stack of carefully laid out bowling pins in front of the circulation desk, and the treadmill behind it, they mean nothing. As does the score; R, E and P are currently almost dead even.
For now, there are much better quality teas and biscuits currently sitting on the cart, still warm and fresh, as if they'd only been there for a little while. And a box of ... dog biscuits? And a little bowl of umeboshi. A Roomba is on the loose with a teacup set on top of it, making endless patterns through the stacks chasing crumbs and werewolf fur and anything else it detects.
Returning Editors, either through their untimely demise or use of Exit Media Res, may find the Safe Zone has changed again, from a pleasant woodland to a small tropical island with turquoise water, white sand beaches and warm comfortable temperatures.
The Library's not quiet in the absence of Editors, between the Roomba humming along and ... the sound of a larger vacuum cleaner somewhere in the stacks, its long cord snaking around bookshelves at lengths that defy normal power supplies.

Murder, Most Fowl
May. 4th, 2026 02:39 pmWho: Calanthe the Lay Advocate, Chie Satonaka, and Sumire Yoshizawa
What: Calanthe investigates one murder, and discovers another.
When: Mid-festival!
Where: A dovecote in the poorer side of town.
Content warnings: dead bodies, murder, Doin A Violence
An odd sort of thing with the Thing With Feathers is that taking care of birds was, once, a sign of devotion. Mind you, that was a year ago! Now, the dovecotes by the walls, which used to be some of the most widely-traveled places in the markets, were now disused, fallen out of favor. At least one dovecote had been burnt hollow in the chaos. Another's roof, already in need of repair, had collapsed with a years' time. It's from these and the chicken coops that Rooster Lane got its name-- birds of all kinds once walked these cobbles.
Calanthe could walk it blindfold. Even without the smell of blood and butchery, this was so familiar; her old stomping grounds, where she and Rossi and Sarala had spent at least a few of her ill-used bygone days of childhood.
She remembered this dovecote in particular; the shade of it on a long summer's day, the way it nestled against the Rooster's Wall so you could, if you were a clever child, hide there and listen to the gossip in the streets.
Leonard's work was not unfruitful. It had staved off much of the damage from neglect and sabotage that the other dovecotes had suffered. But it was never meant to be a one-man operation.
Calanthe wanted to hunt through the records, find the perfect match, but knew that first-- first was always the animals. And so she rolled up her sleeves, and took off her sash and her colorful jacket, and noted the stout quarterstaff leaning against the inner wall.
This, then, was not the first time Leonard had had trouble... And likely this wasn't the last she and Sancho were like to hear of the troublemakers.
Best she find them, lest things get worse.

Who: Sancho, Charalampos, and Lonan. (Rezo, Hikaru, and Jun.)
What: Sancho and company hold a little seance.
When: Towards the end of Week 1.
Where: Sancho's house on the West end.
Content warnings: Death, depression, and dubious magics.
As a high-ranking Maester of the Veiled Lady's temple and as someone with little scruples about how he uses his gifts, Sancho Cabrera has enough income to have his own property on the West end of the city. His residence is a house built of warm colored stone with a tasteful amount of architectural detailing. It looks as though it ought to be a family home, rather than the residence of a single man who works with corpses for a living.
To be fair he usually shares his space with a handful of servants who keep house for him, but he's given his servants time off "for the Grand Festival" and tonight it's just Sancho in the building. There's not a glimmer of lantern or fireplace to be seen, and the building is as quiet as the grave while Sancho awaits his invited guests.
