i'm baaaaaaaaaaack (hopefully)
YOU GUYS I SAW INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE LAST NIGHT AND IT WAS POSSIBLY MY VERY FAVORITEST MOVIE THAT I'VE SEEN THIS YEAR.
Also, Chris Pine gets more and more endearing/hilarious every year.
Obviously this means I have to review every single movie I've watched this year because 1) I love doing end-of-year posts!!! and 2) I am very out of practice re: writing DW posts and that's an easy way to crank out something.
-JANUARY-
I, Tonya: I loved this movie and it broke my heart.
The Shape of Water: GRINDING NEMO. I liked it but that scene where Elisa starts singing is whack.
-FEBRUARY-
Paddington: J and I were visiting E and she desperately wanted to show it to us. It was cute, but I don't think I loved it as much as everyone else.
Black Panther: BLACK PANTHER!!!!! Ugh, I don't know if I can pick a favorite between this and Into the Spider-Verse. ;_____;
*Thor: Ragnorok: This was J's and my movie choice; E had never seen it. A masterpiece, obvs.
*Moulin Rouge: I rewatched this during my Scott/Tessa spiral. I am definitely a little bit in love with Nicole Kidman in this movie.
*The Last Unicorn: I remember loving this movie as a kid, but watching it as an adult I was like ??????? Trippy af.
-MARCH-
A Wrinkle in Time: I DESPERATELY wanted to like this, but it was pretty disappointing. It needed a better screenwriter/adapter and the Happy Medium needed to be recast; I loved all the other casting choices.
The Cloverfield Paradox: This would have worked way better if J. J. Abrams hadn't tried to shove it into the Cloverfield universe.
-APRIL-
Love, Simon: On the one hand, yay gay high school romance? On the other hand, now that I've read the book, why did they have to make the whole Martin-coercing-Simon and Simon-lying-to-Abby storylines soooooo much worse in the movie? Ugh.
Annihilation: This movie was weird af and I loved every minute of it.
*Black Panther: Had to make the roomies watch this, obvs.
Power Rangers: Watched this atBad Fannish Movie Night. Was actually not bad and pretty charming??
-MAY-
A Quiet Place: It was fine? The reviews hyped it up a little too much for me.
Mission: Impossible: I don't know if I've ever watched this movie in its entirety? If I did, I was too young to remember it.
The Swan Princess: Sea made us watch this forBad Fannish Movie Night. It's worth it for this scene alone.
*Austenland: I was visiting T in Switzerland and made her watch this. I love this movie so much, you guys.
Persuasion (2007): I can't remember if T made me watch this first or if I made her watch Austenland first. I wasn't super excited to watch it, but oh boy did I get SUPER into it. It has one of my favorite tropes of all time!!!! The good ole we-broke-up-for-reasons-and-now-it's-years-later-and-we-still-love-each-other plot, heart eyes for days.
-JUNE-
Ocean's 8: My sexual orientation is Sandra Bullock speaking fluent German.
Deadpool 2: Not as great as the first movie, especially considering what they did to Vanessa (which I know wasn't permanent, BUT STILL). Negasonic Teenage Warhead remains my favorite character, obviously.
July through December coming up later because I'm pretty sure my mom will straight up murder me if I don't go eat lunch right now.
