Publishing TLH WorldWide Around the World

I made a website out of my interests. I think the unschooling philosophy started a big part of learning how to make a site. There's pages there dedicated to unschooling and education, programs and college, universities and careers. I wish I unschooled, it would have saved so much time.

Alternative Learning Organization http://alternative-learning.org is publishing a book project for the "The Teenage Liberation Handbook" in many different languages for distributing globally http://www.alternative-learning.or…. This way more people who don't know/would like to know about natural learning, autodidactism, unschooling have a chance to read about it.
Their site is http://alternative-learning.org for unschooling, natural learning, autodidactism, self-educated/taught/led/directed learning.

alternatives, reform for education

Such as Sudbury Valley, Free, Democratic, or other Holistic schools? What about converting schools into unschooling facilities with teachers as mentors?

Having a national minimum standard would level the requirements, but it may limit learning freedom. (I wonder if accelerated learning methods, such as those written in books would help.)The system needs to undergo a transformation to make students more included/involved in a less structured system. Models such as Summerhill, Sudbury Valley, Free schools, Democratic schools, or even unschooling/natural learning/autodidactism. Looking at international education models can also provide insight. Schools should provide the necessary resources to help students blaze their own career paths, guiding them toward possibilities in their interests early on. Basics would be covered when needed. Classes would be multi-interdisciplinary, extending to life applications. An account of an American high school study abroad student at a Scandanavian system stated that the Scandanavian system was more free. There was almost no homework, no tests so students could focus on other important issues in life. Classes were interdisciplinary and discussions were led by both students and professors/teachers. Alternatives to higher education should be considered as well, since not everyone is made to fit the same mold.

Please describe your job to help others choose one.

Hello-

I hope to change the world for the better, so I started a new community, aboutmyjob, where I invite all of you to post your thoughts about your current or past jobs. I'm hoping my community will help young people to answer that very difficult question "What do I want to be?".

Please check out the description via the link above. If you want to post, there's no need to join the community, you can do so right away.

Thanks in advance for sharing, and helping.

Cowboy Bush and Renegade Gifting

There's no need to worry about money or possession or government or ecological devastation. The process of expressing fear is only useful as a tool for mustering motivation toward action. When we expend excess energy griping about the state of affairs at home or abroad we get lost in a laziness that hinders the search for real solutions.

Instead of focusing on everything that's wrong, it makes much more sense to magnify the rightness.

The public attacks on George W. Bush are a prime example of targeted wrongness. Many true and false accusations have been made toward him and he inspires passionate hatred across social boundaries. As a leader his track record has been mixed; he has come under fire not only for his policies but also for the micronizing mindfuck that the masses are experiencing during his reign....
Is he the evil despot that some would claim or does he truly believe that he is waging just wars for the benefit of his people?

The true point of conflict lies in priorities: GWB and his organization believe that the best thing for their America is to possess as many resources as possible in order to protect the future of our society. To that end, they will exhaust every defense to secure America's position at the top of the ladder, even sacrificing investment in the education and health of today's citizens.

The citizens feel the pinch in their neighborhoods and realize that they are paying for the leader's "growth" scheme. They take to the streets with banners in the air that cry "Fuck Bush" while offering no real alternative to the status quo. Their vain attempt to express frustration with lacking systems falls on deaf ears until a better option is thrown on the table.

How do we create a better solution? Read more...Collapse )
........
The only use for fear is as motivation toward action. If we fear running out of resources to sustain our high maintenance lifestyle, then we’d best stop wasting time picking fights and start using our resources more wisely.

And Cowboy Bush, our fearless BushCo. CEO will crawl into bed tonight to get warm next to his lovely wife Laura. He’ll grab his stuffed bear and clutch it very tight hoping just like the rest of us that the world will be alright. He’s only human, and maybe he can come up with a solution too.

Admittedly this post does not take into account the harshness of North Korea's own leadership, and I'd welcome comments regarding Kim Jong-il and the boundaries to aiding N. Korea.

help! i need career advice

i need career advice!

i used to think i knew exactly what i wanted. i went to school to decide between some sort of psychology degree, and vocal performance. i chose vocal performance, because i knew i did not want to live without it. sometime during school, i had a bit of a crisis: was i doing the right thing? i felt a strong urge to leave everything and become a lay missioner. after much anxiety, the crisis passed and i continued my thing.

i quit school somewhere in the middle with every intention of going right back, but life somehow got in the way, and it's been several years. but i'm going back, and trying to decide what my other major should be. now, when i think of my life, i know that i won't be satisfied, fulfilled, won't feel as if i'm truly living my life, unless i'm doing something meaningful. by that i mean something that helps, something altruistic, my Calling. and sometimes i almost feel like i have to be a martyr, sacrificing things that i love for some greater thing that will engulf me. sometimes i'm afraid i will make that choice, sometimes i'm afraid i won't make that choice. and sometimes i think it's all in my head; i have some sort of martyr complex and i should just go on living whatever comes along.

but really, i think i just recognize that there is something fundamentally wrong with the world and i want, need, to do something to fix it.

something that involves travel, something that makes a difference, something that is not boring. i want to make a dent. i used to think i wanted to do social work; i still might! but that seems too small, and i don't think i would find satisfaction there for long.

so i'm looking for something. a field, or at least some subject that might lead to me choosing a field. hopefully combining some of the things that interest me, including: music, writing, social work, law enforcement, linguism, politics, mission-work, psychology, history, internationalism, teaching. but remember, i'm thinking on a big scale. :D because i'm complicated like that.

any ideas? please?

Intro and Such

I'm currently out in the 'Burbs, but I commute to/from Milwaukee. I'm 18, bisexual, and am on the Youth Advisory Board at Project Q. I'm currently involved in a facilitator's training through Project Q, so I can help facilitate support groups. I'm also very involved in the National Forensic League and other public speaking efforts. In other words, I'm a more pro-active/positive activist.

I'm looking for more opportunities to just help out others. I'm looking more into helping out at retirement communities and the like, but I'd like to find other suggestions of what I can do to help out people. I have public speaking skills, I'm friendly, I'm vaguely computer literate (I can type over 80WPM, and I know Word, Powerpoint, HTML, and Javascript), and I love the arts. If anyone can give me input as to where these skills/interests can be put into action, it would be much appreciated.

Additionally, if anyone wants more information about the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center, Project Q (for youth or adult allies), the Galano Club (queer addiction recovery), OutCare (queer-friendly STI testing and healthcare), OutVote, Gemini Gender (trans+ support), FORGE(FTM+ trans support), LAMM(lesbian support), SAGE(elderly queer support), Cream City Chorus (queer chorus), or ARCW (HIV/AIDS outreach), feel free to reply to this post with an email address, and I'll get back to you.

my intro...

hi. okay. this is crossposted into several communities but I thought I'd do a quick intro for all.

I'm 21. and I'm homeless. I have 2 live journals, but this one i use only fror writing about my issues I deal with as being a young homeless female. Feel free to read my journal.

I think there needs to be more of an awareness on homelessness... bnut I'm not sure what there is that I can do about it... I'm only one person.... :( if any of you has any thoughts on what I can do to make a difference, or what you do, then feel free to leave me a comment. :)
