Marshmallow was founded to fix unfair insurance pricing for newcomers to the UK, using proprietary tech and alternative data to offer fairer car insurance, often up to 45% cheaper, by considering driving histories from any country. The result? Over 1 million drivers insured, a $2 billion valuation, and a $500 million revenue run rate. Their ambition is to become a one-stop financial shop for migrants, expanding into home insurance, loans, and more, all tailored to the unique challenges newcomers face, serving as an excellent example to build a vertical ecosystem.  What’s the playbook for UAE Insurtechs? Day 2 at Insurtech Insights Europe. I've had the same conversation 30 times in two days. It starts the same way every time. "We have telematics data." Great. What are you doing with it? "We use it for coaching. Driver scores. Harsh braking alerts." And what happens before you bind the policy? Silence. Every single time. The data exists. The footage is in the cloud. The fleet you're about to write has 200 trucks with forward-facing cameras rolling right now. And nobody in this room is using that footage to make a better underwriting decision. Not the carriers. Not the MGAs. Not the reinsurers. Everyone is building better tools for after the claim. Nobody is building better tools for before the bind. That is the gap. It's not a technology problem. The technology exists. It's a workflow problem. Nobody has connected the dashcam cloud to the underwriting desk. That's what we built FleetVision to do. Two days at Insurtech Insights confirmed what I already suspected: The industry knows there's a gap. Nobody's closed it yet.

Cuvva, founded in 2016 by Freddy Macnamara and James Billingham, is the UK's leading short-term car insurance app. It was the first Insurtech to introduce hourly car insurance policies in the UK and the first to sell policies through an app. It has just released its FY2024 results which are AMAZING: 🚀 £27.4m of annual revenue (+29% YoY) 🚀 £11.5m net profit (+347% YoY) 🚀 95% Gross Margin Cuvva has over tripled its profit. How? 💰 Improving gross margin 💰 Using AI to automate processes 💰 Increasing expenditure at a much slower rate that revenue The company is insanely disciplined when it comes to costs, raising expenses by 5% vs a 29% increase in revenue. In two years the company has gone from losing £5m a year to generating £11m in profit a year 👏. Cuvva last raised money in a crowdfunding round in 2022 at a £109m valuation and is unlikely to need to raise again. This is an amazing set of results - congrats to the team! We were delighted to be selected as one of a handful of businesses pitching at InsurTech UK’s Investment Day last week. Thank you to Melissa Collett and the Insurtech UK team for their continued support. It was a great opportunity to talk about what we believe really matters in AI in insurance broking: Placement optimisation is only as good as the client understanding behind it. Placement is not just a matching exercise between risk and appetite. The best brokers know that every placement sits in the context of a client’s real priorities: what they need to protect, where they can flex, what they cannot compromise on, what outcome matters most commercially. That understanding shapes everything: the markets approached, the structure proposed, the trade-offs made, and ultimately the recommendation a client receives. This is why AI placement optimisation, on its own, can only go so far. If AI is only optimising for market fit, price, or speed, it is missing a critical part of the decision: why this placement is right for this client. Without the broker’s view of client intent, optimisation risks becoming too narrow - technically efficient, but disconnected from the outcome the client actually wants. At Agentiv-x, we believe the real opportunity for AI in broking is not to replace judgement. It is to connect client understanding more directly to the placement process, so brokers can reach better decisions faster, with clearer rationale behind every recommendation.
