I wanted to fly down south to LA for the holidays but I wasn't sure if I should fly out from SFO or Oakland airport (I drove up). SO I wanted to know which is more convenient, especially with the holiday rush?
Also out of curiosity, is there any reason why I should be back any earlier than the day before class starts?

What is your opinion of the neighborhood around the MacArthur BART station? I was there yesterday and it didn't look all that bad, but I've not heard good things about it. For that matter, what is your opinion about the areas around the Ashby, Lake Merritt, or Fruitvale Stations? I'm looking for apartments and as a soon-to-be alum, I'm considering things further away from campus so I can stop wasting all my money on rent. All I require is that it be near a BART station, fairly residential, quiet, relatively safe (it's still Oakland, after all), and interesting in itself, i.e. I don't need to travel by bus to get to an area that offers vibrant, interesting things to do. I know these areas exist! The ads don't give any synopsis about the neighborhood, so that's where you guys come in.
