if you have a narrating voice in your head, how do you think of yourself?
For example, inside your own head, do you think: "I need to go to the grocery store." "You need to go to the grocery store." "We need to go to the grocery store." or.....something else? "She needs to go to the grocery store" (?) I know there are some people who don't have a narrating voice in their heads at all, and just understand that they need to go to the grocery store without hearing a voice that speaks to them in words. this ain't about you.
pro tip for inviting out disabled and chronically ill people who aren't sure they can make it:
instead of "your health comes first, you don't have to come"
try "is there anything we can do to make it easier?"
disabled people want to hang out with our friends. "we don't want you to come if you're sick" is usually reasonable, but when you're ALWAYS sick? it just becomes "we don't want you to come."
asking if you can do anything for them signals that you do want to see your friend, and that you're willing to accommodate their disability, while still giving them the option to tap out if they really need to. it also opens the door for them to ask for support they might have felt too guilty to request.
notes are inflated here but hi disabled dyke needs help, i'm out $120~ between trips to the doctor and new medication and missing hours and i have a $385 ambulance bill hanging over my head. i don't work enough to afford all my necessities and i'm trying to get on disability but i could really really use any help whether it be $1 or $5 i also need cat litter and my next paycheque i don't think is going to be enough to cover all my necessities
