Gah, stuck on my Japanese homework that I should have done two weeks ago :(
My own fault for not doing it before my snowboarding holiday (which was fun, BTW)

If anyone knows anything about chapter 7 of minna no nihongo then text me quick ;)

Blunkett's resigned. I feel quite good about that; some of his policies scared me. I'd rather not give up all my civil liberties just so he can arrest anyone in a turban any time he feels like it.

I've been rather busy of late, I'm starting a new job after Christmas, I've finally got the guts to leave version one and try something a bit different. Now all that I need to do it to pay off my massive debts and then I can move to Mexico and be a waiter.

It's the office christmas party tomorrow and I'm supposed to provide a secret fact about myself for some stupid office party game; I've no idea what to put.

/yawn/ I never seem to have any energy these days.

Vacances de travaille

I've got plenty of time to write this journal entry. Why? I hear you asking in union. Because I'm sat in Bordeaux airport, that's why. I should be in the air, on my way back to grimy manchester. Shout going out to Bordeaux aiport for providing free WiFi access, I'd go mad withnout it. Evil thoughts for bmibaby.com and their shite service, and impossible to stick to timetables. The incoming plane only landed 5 minutes ago. We were suppoed to fly 30 minutes ago. I'm never flying cheap-ass airlines again.
I've given up my Saturday so that I would have enough time to finish the job that I've been doing in Cognac (a lovely place) for Grey Goose Vodka (if that means anything to you). It now looks as though my entire Saturday will be sepnt sat in the departure lounge here. I'm not a happy chap right now. The iBook only has 3 hours of power left and the battery is getting a bit old now. Of course the charger's in my other bag; which I've checked in because the bitch French woman wouldn't let me carry it onboard. (it was fine coming).
The trip had been quite fun so far. I ended up with a 307CC to drive, which is a very nice car, just not very practical on the boot front if you have the top down. The weather has been really nice, and I've managed to get all my work finished in time. I've had some really nice meals, though I'd recommend avoiding raw meat if you don't want to spend a night on and off the pisser. I was supposed to have been writing some more of my story, but the easy availability of wine put pay to that :)
I bought Gareth a really nice sleeveless tshirt which appears to have gone AWOL between the shop and me getting to the airport (amazing given the tiny boot) which I'm a bit annoyed about. Now I have nothing to give him, so I dare say that I'll not be getting any tonight. :(
It looks like there's some activity going on around our gate, I'm sure they're just doing it to raise our hopes so that they can dash them with an announcement of a longer delay. "We appreciate your comprehension", yeah, bollocks they do.
I was going to buy some music from iTMS for the iPod but, bien sur, the firewire cable is in my other bag.

Wishing a nice weekend to anyone not stuck at an airport.

My Prisoner of Azkaban thoughts ** SPOILERS **

I went to see Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban on Monday night. Visually it was a very impressive film, ahead of the previous two movies. The effects were stunning, especially the dementors which worked really well. The acting was better with the three leads integrating much tighter than before. The film packs an awful lot into it, perhaps a little too much for the time allowed. I would have happily watched for a further 30 minutes if it meant explaining the plot points better. The first two films stuck rigidly to the canon where as this one re-arranges things a little more. I was probably more acutely aware of this as I re-read POA recently. Quite a few scenes which I consider to be quite important (and having read the subsequent books I know what's important and what's not) were left out, which might require a bit of catch up in the next movie. (Honestly I don't see how they can do GoF in one film at all) The character of Remus Lupin was introduced far too quickly and his relationship with Harry just seems to appear from out of nowhere. For some reason Lupin gets Harry to face the boggart in the DADA class, which doesn't happen in the book, hence Lupin's introduction is a little disjoint. (Though I loved him putting on the gramophone and letting the class go after the boggart) Gary Oldman plays Sirius really well, but isn't given the screen time he deserves. It was good to see some of the madness in Sirius that's not throughly described in the book. It would have been good to have had the relationship between James, Remus, Sirius and Pettigrew described a little better, as it is we're not even told who Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs are. Alan Rickman's performance is spot as as Snape, though again he isn't given the screen time he really should have. A major disappointment was the way Draco Malfoy was used, protraying him more as a brutish bully, who cries as soon as someone stands up to him, rather than the schemeing Slytherin we all know him to be. Lucius Malfoy doesn't make an appearance at all. The Quidditch match is rather short, but certainly intense and the match against Slytherin is cut completely, which is a pity as I was looking forward to it.
In conclusion, it's a great film and defintly worth watching. Prisoner of Azkaban has more going on that the first two books, and it's a much harder story to compress down into the timescale of a movie. I would have adapted it a bit differently to the way that it was done, but then my movie would probably have been 6 hours long too :)
