Double Down (Web Animation)
I'll see your twenty contestants and raise ya one victornote

Double Down is a web-animated Object Show created by PillowPepper (Supernova Specialization) on 31st July 2024.

After spending years begging producers to have her own show, Face Serum finally gets to host one alongside her battered co-host CD Case starring twenty eager competitors in a swanky five-star hotel. However, time is of the essence for the contestants as it's a factor on how the game, elimination and more importantly the million-dollar credit card grand prize will be affected.

Not to be confused with Neil Breen's 2005 film of the same name.

See the first episode and intro on YouTube.

Contains the following tropes:

  • Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: Or rather Accessory Wearing Cartoon Object:
    • Crystal and Emerald sports fedoras to showcase their athleticism and adventurous nature respectively.
    • Comic Book dons a superhero cape as the superhero he thinks he is.
    • Flora has a headband on since she's a pot-smoking hippie.
    • Popcorn wears her baseball cap backward alongside some headphones to look cool.
    • Starfruit dons a pair of clear sunglasses she has yet to put over her eyes.
    • Sticky got the whole shebang with the bowtie, top hat and cane which screams Upper-Class Twit.
  • A Dog Named "Dog": As always with these Object Shows, the cast goes by the objects they represent such as an almond milk carton called "Almond Milk", a teacup called "Tea Cup" and so on.
  • A Lizard Named "Liz": Sticky is the first half of sticky notepad, his species while Flora refers to her being a marijuana plant and PillowPepper getting past the YouTube censors.
  • Alliterative Name: Double "D"s for Double Down.
  • Animate Inanimate Object: All of the cast is an anthropomorphic object of some kind.
  • Animation Bump: The animation noticeably gets smoother while Popcorn is busting some moves on the dance floor.
  • Anthropomorphic Food: Nearly half the contestants are food-basednote .
  • Armless Biped: Dice is the only contestant and castmember overall to be the trope.
  • Beleaguered Assistant: Co-host CD Case has to deal with his boss Face Serum's whims and mood swings on a daily basis. In the first episode alone, CD Case is belittled, shushed under the threat of being fired and thrown at the contestants for the challenge when Face Serum ran out of fruit as ammo.
CD Case: [While flung in the air] I HATE MY JOB!!!
  • Big Bad Wannabe: Sticky was certain he could dominate the competition with his charisma, affluence and strategic gameplay starting with manipulating everyone on his team to vote out their strongest teammate Crystal. Unfortunately for Sticky, almost everyone caught onto his scheme and only managed to convince the stupid contestant (Poker Chip) and the shady ones with their own agenda (Diamond and Tea Cup) which wasn't enough to not be the first eliminated in a majority vote for being a egotistical liability trying to profit off the show despite not needing the money.
  • Decided by One Vote: The twist and gimmick of the game is that not only the contestant with the most votes is eliminated every episode but also the best-performing contestant can choose which of the remaining players is automatically eliminated as well. This became an interesting development for the strategic contestants who changed their game plans accordingly.
  • Everyone Meets Everyone: The contestants all get to know each other during the bus ride to the competition grounds and showcase their colourful personalities and quirks. This gets deconstructed as the driver stops the bus and angrily demands the contestants to walk on foot for the rest of the journey since their looney toon antics have been driving him up the wall and destroying his precious vehicle.
  • Expy: The backwards-cap, headphone-wearing Popcorn who loves to breakdance is basically the same contestant from Animatic Battle which is no surprise given the latter was recommended by Double Down's creator PillowPepper.
  • Graceful Loser: Lemonade, although a little sad, takes his elimination in stride unlike Sticky, and says a few parting words of enjoying his time on the show before jumping off the building's pool on his own terms.
  • Hiding Behind Your Bangs: Iceberg Lettuce has one of his leaves covering his right eye while Sticky's crease is folded in a way to hide his to denote their reserved and manipulative nature respectively.
  • Irony: Not only did Sticky's plan of eliminating Crystal backfire spectacularly when he became the first boot instead but also the latter being the best performer, the reason why the former wants her out, allowed Crystal to automatically eliminate anyone of her choosing including Sticky if the vote went differently.
  • Lazy Bum: Lemonade prefers lazing about than partaking in challenges and being a team player. Unsurprisingly, this is what got him out in the first episode as Crystal points out that while he wasn't a threat, he did the least out of everyone which is detrimental to the team to which Lemonade agrees with the sentiment.
  • The Leader: Dice and Iceberg Lettuce were picked as the captains for their own pre-determined teams due to having the most leadership experience on their resumes. Their teammates have mixed feelings about this.
  • Lying Finger Cross: Teacup and Diamond propose they form an alliance but behind their backs, both cross their fingers to indicate their eventual double-cross of one another. Teacup lampshades the trope during Confession Cam session about why it is necessary to do so and goes off-tangent before it cuts to the next scene.
  • Morton's Fork: It turns out that even if the last placer Sticky managed to vote Crystal out in an alternate scenario, the second elimination would be decided by the best-performing player, eliminated or not, which is also Crystal who would definitely use her vote on Sticky, spelling his doom from the game either way.
  • The Sociopath: CD Case lampshades this regarding Face Serum after Lemonade's elimination:
Face Serum: What a shame. I'm gonna miss that guy.
CD Case: Uh-huh... Since when did you have sympathy towards anyone?
Face Serum: Never did, never will.
  • Tempting Fate: Sticky is first introduced declaring Bookmark as an early first-boot but was far off the mark when it turns out the former was eliminated in last place instead.
  • Those Two Guys: Cough Syrup and Lemonade became unlikely friends right off the bat in the first episode, having the ol' Straight Man and Wise Guy dynamic, up until the latter's elimination in the same episode.
  • Too Powerful to Live: Subverted. Crystal has all the attributes of a strong competitor, being athletic, friendly, a great team player who gives it her all and has a good head on her shoulders, which is why Sticky believes she must be the first to go and tries convincing others on his team the same. However, most including Iceberg Lettuce argued that while Crystal would be quite the threat at the merge, this is just the first episode and she is far more essential to the team stage of the game than someone who's actively detrimental and plotting against them. Thus, Sticky was voted out instead.
