After Gus decides to kill Hank Schrader and Walt warns the DEA of Gus’ attempt to kill Hank, Walt swiftly tries to obtain the $500,000 needed to protect his family from Gus’ wrath. Unfortunately, Walt realizes too late that he doesn’t have enough money at the worst time possible, because Skyler gave the money to Ted. As a result of this perfect storm of events, Walt can only react to just how utterly screwed he is by screaming and laughing in the crawl space, symbolizing the death of Walter White and the birth of Heisenberg.
