Invincible (2006)

Go To

  • Referenced by…: A Whole-Plot Reference in the third season of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia in the aptly named "The Gang Gets Invincible". The gang decides to go try out for the Eagles when the team offers an open tryout akin to the film (which released the year before); needless to say, it doesn't go as well for them as it did for Vince Papale.
  • Separated-at-Birth Casting: Unlike Mark Wahlberg to the real Vince Papale, Greg Kinnear is a pretty good ringer to a young Dick Vermeil.
  • Throw It In: During the montage of the game vs. the Giants, there's a slow-motion shot of Wahlberg running down the sideline and gets blasted off his feet by a blindside block from an opposing player and has to stagger back to his feet. The extra was an overzealous football player from the University of Delaware who hit Wahlberg during filming despite very clear no-contact rules and was removed from the shoot; however, the shot was too fantastic to not put in the movie, especially since it's very clear to the audience Wahlberg took a legitimate hit.
