"I'm trained as a clinical psychologist, could do something about it but have chosen not to. Sometimes anxiety makes me feel alive."
Dr. Alex Delaware, on his hypervigilant response to sirens

The One With… ... Alex and Milo investigating a double murder at Make-Out Point, that leads them to a prominent celebrity psychologist's involvement.

Released in 2004, it is the 18th novel in Jonathan Kellerman's Alex Delaware series.

The story opens when LAPD detective Milo Sturgis and psychologist Dr. Alex Delaware are called to a gruesome crime scene in the hills above Los Angeles: a young couple found shot to death in a car, the woman also impaled on a metal spike.

Delaware hopes his psychological expertise will yield crucial clues, which leads him to confront Dr. Mary Lou Koppel, a prominent psychologist fiercely protective of her clients’ confidentiality — even after their deaths. As Alex and Milo dig deeper they uncover multiple suspects, hidden motives, and a web of greed, corruption, betrayal and professional intrigue that stretches far beyond a simple double murder.
