The Home is a 2025 horror film directed by James DeMonaco (of The Purge Universe fame) and starring Pete Davidson, Bruce Altman, and John Glover.
When Max (Davidson) is forced to work at a retirement home as community service, he finds himself disturbed by the fact the fourth floor is forbidden as its residents require "special care". As he grows suspicious of the home, he discovers the staff hide chilling secrets that pose a threat to both himself and the residents... and that may have connections to Max's own past.
The Home contains examples of:
- Abusive Parents: Max's foster parents only foster children so they can be harvested for their youth.
- Ain't Too Proud to Beg: During Max’s killing spree at the end, many members of the cult beg him not to hurt them. The most pathetic example is Lou, who, while being held hostage, pleads with Max, saying, “But I’m your friend” even though he was the one who was the ring leader of whole operative to into making Max believe that the people in the retirement home were unstable.
- A Storm Is Coming: It's established early on that a hurricane is building up and due to hit the area. It finally arrives at the climax, after Luke has given Max the youth fluid, enabling him to fight back against their captors.
- Bait the Dog: Not everyone who Max bonds with over the movie actually has his best interests at heart, even if he gets on well with most of the home’s residents. Most cruel examples of this are Lou, the patient he bonded the most with besides Norma, as he seemed to be experiencing horrific elder abuse, but was actually the main orchestrator of the bullshit narrative they were walking him through, and his own foster parents, who traffic their own children to be harvested for their youth. The only people in the movie who he interacts with to be genuinely on his side are the girls in his foster house and the other rapidly-aged youths on the home’s fourth floor.
- Curb-Stomp Cushion: While most of the retirement home residents Max kills go down without much of a fight, Les manages to put up some offense by using a bat to defend himself.
- Death Faked for You: Luke's suicide was staged by his foster parents.
- Evil Old Folks: The residents of the retirement home are not friendly. Some, at least, bond with Max, even help him out, but this seems to be a fast track to getting tortured or killed themselves. Norma was the only one who seemed to begin to actually care about Max, and she tried to send him away, but was unfortunately killed for trying to help him by the rest. Literally everyone else in the movie who isn’t a foster kid or a random city extra, even his parents, are in on the conspiracy.
- Eye Scream: The retirement home harvests fluid to extend their life. This process involves syringes being injected right into people's eyes.
- Foster Kid: Max grew up as one, and wound up a troubled adult who constantly sprays graffiti.
- Four Is Death: Max is told early on that the fourth floor is off limits as the residents there require special care. It's where the victims of the youth harvesting operation are kept after most of their fluid has been drained.
- Heel–Face Door-Slam: Norma is the only member of the conspiracy to actually grow a conscience, trying to urge Max to escape while he can after they genuinely bond, but she was still part of a decades-long kidnapping and harvesting scheme, so the others don’t let her live for it.
- Human Shield: At the end, Sabian tries to stop Max's rampage with a handgun, but Max uses Lou's body to block the shots.
- Morally Ambiguous Doctorate: Dr. Sabian has perfected a technique to drain the lives of the young and empower himself and his cult.
- Rapid Aging: Harvesting the youth from Luke's eyes has turned Max's brother into a withered old man when he realistically should only be a bit older than Max.
- Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Luke siphons off fluid from the residents of the fourth floor, feeding it to Max and restoring his vitality. Max takes up a hammer and axe and wipes out the residents of the home.
- Surprisingly Happy Ending: Empowered by the others’ fluids, Max is able to escape his own extraction, kill everyone who’d been kidnapping people for generations, restore enough life to the captive foster siblings that they can stand, and reunite with the brother he’d long thought had killed himself.
- Town with a Dark Secret: Or rather, a retirement home with a dark secret. It doesn't take much time for Max to realize something shady is up with the home.
