Rectuma (Film)
Rectuma is a 2003 direct-to-video exploitation film, which parodies monster movies. The plot sees a Ridiculously Average Guy named Waldo Williams coming back from his vacation in Mexico with a strange, unexplained pain in his backside. After seeing medical advice, his proctologist informs him that during his vacation he was unknowingly violated by a rare Mexican Butt-Humping Bullfrog, whose poisonous ejaculations are invariably fatal to their victims. The proctologist puts him in touch with a backstreet scientist named Dr. Wansamsaki, who is pioneering an experimental treatment using radiation, which seems to cure Waldo. However, it has an unexpected and very unusual side-effect in that Waldo's butt becomes sentient and able to detach from his body. Things then go From Bad to Worse when the butt, now nicknamed, "Rectuma", murders Waldo's cheating wife and her lover, and then grows to giant size and goes on a rampage in Los Angeles.

Tropes include:

  • Artistic License – Biology: It's all played for laughs, but the film takes some major liberties with biology — least of all how Waldo can stand up and walk around when Rectuma seemingly takes his hip bone with it when it detaches itself from him.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: While the Kaiju and giant monster B-movie genres have both produced a lot of unusual critters over the years, this is probably the first and only one to have a giant disembodied ass be the thing causing the destruction.
  • Back-Alley Doctor: Quite literally in the case of Dr. Wansamsaki, who is first shown meeting with Waldo in a rainy back alley at night. Also more figuratively in that he's hired to solve a problem with Waldo's "back alley".
  • Bad Liar: Waldo's wife Valveeta swears that she'd be devastated if ever he died, and then tries to kill him by dropping a box with something heavy inside it, narrowly missing his head.
  • Black Dude Dies First: While it's implied that Rectuma kills other people off-screen beforehand, Johnny Pecks, the lover of Waldo's wife, is the first named character to die.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Waldo does his fair share of this during the course of the movie, particularly when he calls Dr. Wansamsaki after finding out that his ass has detached itself and gone missing:
Dr. Wansamsaki: Have you called the police?
Waldo: What do you want me to do, file a missing ass report? Why don't I just put a picture of it on a fucking milk carton?!
  • Dirty Cop: Lampshaded by Detective Cipolla, who tells Waldo that "Anything you say can and will be misquoted and used in a court of law against you."
  • Hong Kong Dub: Master Tashira speaks in a deliberate version of this, with his lip movements way off-sync and his voice being obviously unsuited to him.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed:
    • Detective Cipolla is an obvious take-off on Jodie Foster's performance as Clarice Starling in Silence of the Lambs, which is acknowledged and lampshaded in-universe.
    • Insomuch as his inspiration could ever be described as a "celebrity", Summa Cum Lauden is clearly meant to be a stand-in for Osama Bin Laden.
  • Poor Communication Kills: When Summa Cum Lauden asks the members of his terrorist cell for a volunteer for a suicide bombing mission, they all put their hands up — and then blow themselves up there and then, forcing him to undertake the mission himself.
  • Refuge in Audacity: We have a movie that starts out with a man being terminally ill after being sexually violated by a frog, then is cured with radioactive rods being inserted into his ass, only for the cure to turn said ass into a giant rampaging self-aware monster, which is eventually blown up by an Osama Bin Laden Expy. Yeah, it pretty much runs on this trope.
  • Right Through His Pants: A rare case where the man is on the receiving end of this trope; Waldo's still wearing his swimshorts when the Mexican Butt-Humping Bullfrog has its way with him.
  • Stylistic Suck: Since the film's budget was close to non-existent, it doesn't make any attempt at making any of the effects look convincing.
  • Take That!: After Dr. Wansamsaki reveals that Rectuma is now mutating uncontrollably and will grow to giant size, Detective Cosacca asks whether he means "Oprah large, or Sally Struthers large". Wansamsaki quickly clarifies that he means "Godzilla large."
  • Too Dumb to Live: Played with, since the things that actually put Waldo's life in danger — being violated by the Mexican Butt-Humping Bullfrog and then being threatened by a giant mutant ass — are things he could never have anticipated, but it's a wonder he lived long enough to have either of those threaten him, given how oblivious he seems to his wife's attempts on his life.
  • Your Size May Vary: The size of Rectuma after it grows into a giant monster can jump around drastically from shot to shot, as can that of the Mexican Butt-Humping Bullfrog that sets the whole mess in motion.
