The Owl House: Further Adventures is a The Owl House fanfiction written by cornholio4. It can be read on Archive of Our Own (here
) and on FanFiction.Net (here
). The premise revolves around the further adventures of Luz and the cast following the show's Time Skip epilogue.
The Owl House: Further Adventures contain examples of:
- Adaptational Villainy: Besides having served on the Emperor's Coven and was sent to keep an eye on her former student, Flora D'splora wasn't particularly villainous in the show. Here she sides with the Neo-Emperor's Coven, as she was paid more in the old regime than in the new one.
- Ascended Extra: Of all people, Tiny Nose is revealed to have been elected the Grand Councillor, the leader of the new elected government body of the Boiling Isles.
- Asshole Victim: Literally no one is upset when Number IV kills Odalia.
- Big Bad Wannabe: Odalia leads the Neo-Emperor's Coven as the "Grand Regent", seeking to overthrow the new government of the Boiling Isles. However, under her command the Coven accomplishes nothing but mostly failed Palistrom heists, with each defeat draining their resources. Her attempts to extend the Coven's numbers all end up failing; she even ends up being beaten up by her own daughter Amity when she leads one such mission and just manages to escape. Her operations are taken down in "Last of the Empire" and she ends up being drained of her magic and life by Number IV.
- Bittersweet Ending: The first arc of the story has this in "Last of the Empire": The "Heroes of the Isles" and the Unity Patrol take down the entire operations of the Neo-Emperor's Coven and Number IV is freed from his forced role of posing as a Grimwalker of Belos. However, Number IV doesn't take it well when he sees that Lilith Clawthorne, who helped oversee the basilisk experiments, is allowed to be free by the good guys. He ends up flying away and frees Odalia from custody so that he can drain her of her magic and life (though no one is torn up about that). Luz is still dealing with the reveal of her transformation into part-Titan, and Number IV, armed with the Titan Killer blade, seeks to eliminate all that were involved with the basilisks' suffering.
- Canon Character All Along: "Grimwalker Belos" turns out to be one of the basilisks that escaped with Vee from the Emperor's Coven.
- Clingy Jealous Girl: In "Hand of Midas", Amity almost attacks the siren Marina for flirting with Luz.
- Corrupted Character Copy:
- Detective Jim Saturday is based on Sergeant Joe Friday from Dragnet, as a police officer who is fond of "Reason You Suck" speeches. However, while Friday is a moral officer, Saturday shows disdain for modern day youth and is implied to be transphobic.
- Princess Opal is based on Princess Amber from Sofia the First, showing what she could have become if she had never had her character development in the show.
- Decomposite Character: Number IV, one of the basilisks that escaped with Vee ends up being turned into multiple characters, with the one resembling him at the University of Wild Magic being made another similar looking one, while Number IV himself is held prisoner by Odalia and forced to play the role of "Grimwalker Belos".
- Disc-One Final Boss: Odalia, as "Grand Regent" of the Neo-Emperor's Coven, is set up as the new Big Bad early on. However, after only seven chapters her coven collapses from her inept leadership, and the basilisk Number IV — whom she'd had posing as a Grimwalker of Belos to be her Puppet King — kills her in revenge, before going off on his own to plot further revenge on the Boiling Isles.
- The Dog Bites Back: Number IV, who was kept in a cage by Odalia for years and forced to be pose as a Grimwalker of Belos as her Puppet King, ends up freeing her from the Unity Patrol just so that he can drain her of her magic and life himself.
- The Dreaded: The ancient Titan king Kronos the Kruel was said to be feared; even by his fellow Titans.
- Enemy Mine: The chapter "UnHappiest Place in the Demon Realm" explains how long ago, the Titans actually worked with the Titan Trappers and the Grand Huntsman in order to seal away the evil Titan king Kronos the Kruel.
- Famed in Story: Luz, her friends and loved ones are all famous and beloved by the Boiling Isles, known as "the Heroes of the Isles".
- Foreshadowing: In "Hyde and Seek", Masha points out that the original literature version of Doctor Jekyll intentionally created Mr Hyde to do what he wanted without consequences. The villain of the chapter does end up being a case of The Jekyll Is a Jerk.
- The Fundamentalist: Kelly is a staunch traditionalist Christian who uses her religious beliefs as an excuse to be homophobic (and implied to be transphobic as well), and who like Belos before her assumes that all witches and demons are automatically evil.
- Happily Married: Eda and Raine have gotten married since between the end of Belos and the Time Skip.
- The Heavy: Odalia Blight as the "Grand Regent" of the Grimwalker of Belos. Especially when it is revealed that "Grimwalker Belos" is actually Number IV, a basilisk being forced to act as a figurehead for her.
- Heel–Face Turn: Osran and Mason, who were former Coven Heads under Belos and helped against the resistance to the Day of Unity, are now apparently reformed and are among the High Council which leads the Boiling Isles' new government.
- Historical Hero Upgrade: In-Universe; there exists a novel in the human realm “Witch Hunter Phillip”, based on the Gravesfield legends of Phillip. Everything known about it suggests that Phillip is portrayed as what the real life version saw himself as, a hero fighting against evil witches.
- Hoist by His Own Petard: In "Hand of Midas", Adrian tries to use the titular artefact on Luz, only for her to knock it back into his face and turn him into a gold statue.
- Internal Reveal: "Law & Disorder" has the Cabin 7 trio find out that the "Luz" that they knew in camp was actually Vee and is a basilisk.
- The Jekyll Is a Jerk: Doctor Henry Blake uses potions and ingredients left behind by Eda in a bar 5 years ago to create a serum that creates a bulked up form for him that he can control. Similar to the original Doctor Jekyll in literature, he intentionally created his alter ego so that he could do what he wanted without his reputation affected.
- Karma Houdini Warranty:
- Piniet escaped consequences from his episode, beyond all his trapped authors escaping and Luz and King getting out of his cube prison. Here, he gets beaten by Luz and gets A Taste of His Own Medicine, being shrank into a cube himself.
- Odalia is arrested in "Last of the Empire", and is shortly after abducted and drained of her magic and life by Number IV.
- Karmic Death: Odalia is killed by the same basilisk whom she imprisoned and enslaved for years.
- Know When to Fold 'Em: After Adrian is defeated in "Hand of Midas", his mercenaries immediately surrender to the heroes.
- Named by the Adaptation: Vee’s two unnamed friends from Cabin 7 are named Nathan and Ashley.
- Not in This for Your Revolution: The Neo-Emperor's Coven isn't exclusively made up of true believers of the propaganda that Belos had sold to the Boiling Isles. There are ones who missed being able to freely engage in Police Brutality and those that are Only in It for the Money; this includes the mercenaries hired to bolster up the forces when they end up losing too many forces to failed missions.
- Our Sirens Are Different: Demon Realm sirens are the inspiration for Human Realm legends of mermaids, and are believed to be vicious monsters who intentionally lure sailors to their deaths. In actuality, their singing is just wanting to bring in audiences for concerts, and the sailors shipwreck themselves by being reckless.
- Politically Incorrect Villain: Detective Jim Saturday is implied to be transphobic.
- Puppet King: Grimwalker Belos is one to Odalia for the Neo-Emperor's Coven, with her acting as his "Grand Regent" but is actually the one calling the shots. Especially with the reveal that he is actually her basilisk prisoner Number IV posing as a Grimwalker of Belos.
- The Remnant: The initial main antagonists are the Neo-Emperor's Coven, a group of die-hard Belos loyalists gathered by Odalia and Adrian using a Grimwalker of Belos as a Puppet King to rally around. Once their numbers start dwindling from defeats by the heroes, however, they have to resort to building up their numbers with mercenaries just to stay relevant. After "Grimwalker Belos" is revealed to be the basilisk Number IV that Odalia was forcing to play the role, the remaining coven members turn on her and surrender, with Odalia herself being killed by a vengeful Number IV, bringing the Neo-Emperor's Coven to an end.
- Shadow Archetype: Kelly represents what Luz could have turned out to be if Camilla and Manny were not supportive of her quirks and interests and had wanted to stamp them out from a young age.
- Shout-Out:
- "Nothing Ever Ends" has Odalia state that "The dark side of magic is a pathway to abilities that most would consider... Unnatural...". The author's note even states "The dead speak!".
- "Law & Disorder" has Vee and her friends from Cabin 7 at the abandoned Fluffybear's Pizza restaurant, clearly inspired by Five Nights at Freddy's.
- The same chapter states that a previous haunt of theirs was Princess Gwen's Castle, inspired by Dana Terrace’s new co-creation (produced by Glitch Productions) Knights of Guinevere.
- Doctor Henry Blake was partly based on Professor Henry Hidgens from the Hatchetfield series.
- Kelly Pearl was based on Ashley from An Unpleasant Surprise.
- Marina the siren was visibly based on the The Little Mermaid (2023) version of Ariel.
- Take That!:
- Near the end of “Last of the Empire”, when it’s revealed that Grimwalker Belos was actually the basilisk Number IV posing as him, Luz criticises the idea of a franchise bringing back an old Big Bad when they don’t have confidence in their new ideas and villains.
- The kingdom of Avalonia in "UnHappiest Place in the Demon Realm" is a big one towards Disney.
- Uncertain Doom: Adrian ends up turning himself into gold with the Hand of Midas. No one is sure of an answer when Luz asked if they can reverse it. They end up sending his statue body to the Reformatorium.
- Unknown Rival: Tom, the demon hunter from "Hooty's Moving Hassle" who threw Luz and her friends off a cliff; is now one of the mercenaries working for the Neo-Emperor's Coven in order to get revenge on Luz. To his dismay, she doesn't remember him at all, pointing out that he wasn't very memorable from all the enemies she fought in her first year on the Boiling Isles.
- Villain Forgot to Level Grind: Piniet doesn’t really fare very well against the more experienced Luz.
- We Used to Be Friends: "Old Bonds Cracking" introduces Luz's childhood friend Kelly, whom she hasn't seen in years. And unfortunately, in that time Kelly has been conditioned by her parents to be a homophobic Christian fundamentalist, which quickly destroys her and Luz's friendship.
- Wham Line: At the end of "Hand of Midas", Luz ends up being checked at the Bonesborough hospital for the cause of her now being able to use King's sound attack. Emira has the answer: she is becoming part-Titan.
