"You want a new challenge? Meet a friend I made before you two entered my domain. He's a fun guy and can compare to me."
— Downbeat, "Chapter 2: Familiar Surroundings And New Vessels"
Super Mario Bros.: Monday Night Mix
is a fanfic by AwesomeGamer
that serves as a crossover between PhoenixSnilloc
's Just A Regular FNF Mod
and various Super Mario Bros. creepypastas/horrorbrews.
After besting her old foe Downbeat once again, Bonnie (along with her boyfriend Giles) is sent to another world to meet a "friend" of his, kicking off an unsettling, action-packed adventure unlike anything she's seen before.
This fic contains examples of...
- Action Girl: While Bonnie is mostly all talk to her opponents during battles, she's still capable of kicking ass when she needs to.
- Action Girlfriend: Bonnie is this to Giles.
- Arrogant Kung-Fu Girl: Bonnie is depicted as this, contrasting with Lucas's more timid nature. MX highlights this trait in her equivalent to his "innocence doesn't get you far" line:"YOUR ARROGANCE WILL NOT ALWAYS SAVE YOU."
- Affectionate Nickname: Giles often refers to Bonnie as "Bun".
- And I Must Scream: Given that the story takes place in 2023, Lucas has been trapped in the cursed Mario game for 38 years.
- Battle Couple: Bonnie and Giles.
- Body Horror:
- MX's transformation into his true form has his disguise's eyes melting off to reveal Black Eyes of Evil.
- Bullying a Dragon: Despite MX being massive and terrifyingly fast, Bonnie still takes any chance she can to make fun of him.
- Carry a Big Stick: Similar to the Mario series, Bonnie's main weapon in MX's world is a hammer, courtesy of Giles tossing one to her during a chase.
- Cats Are Mean: Nekoamon isn't exactly the friendliest feline around, given the way he antagonizes and actively chases down the heroes with the intent of killing them for fun.
- Cross Player: Like in their original world, Bonnie and Giles inhabit vessels of the opposite gender when they get transported to MX's world, with Bonnie becoming Mario and Giles becoming Peach. This is lampshaded by Berry when she finds out Giles is actually male."A guy in the form of Peach? Unexpected."
- Defensive "What?": Bonnie gives one after Lucas calls her out for repeatedly trash-talking MX.
- Everyone Has Standards: Despite Bonnie's arrogant and often-brash nature, she's still rightfully disgusted by the fact that MX has been tormenting an 8-year-old boy for nearly four decades.
- Failure Montage: Before she finally managed to beat him, Lucas had to endure sitting through Bonnie's many failed attempts, all of which ended with her death.
- Fisher Kingdom: MX's world seems to have this effect on Bonnie and Giles, as they are forcibly changed into Mario and Peach before being dropped in.
- Hands Looking Wrong: After waking up in MX's world, one of the first things Bonnie notices (aside from the fact she isn't in her original game), are her Mario vessel's bright yellow hands.
- I Was Beaten by a Girl: Invoked by Bonnie after "Hero's Doom", where she taunts MX for losing to her twice in a row.
- Mirror Reveal: Bonnie discovers she's inhabiting the body of Mario after looking at her reflection in a nearby puddle.
- Off with His Head!: Upon dying in "Hero's Doom", Bonnie is treated to the sight of her vessel's head impaled on a flagpole ala Mario Eighty Five's Game Over screen.
- Oh, Crap!: Delta when Crimson Hunter catches sight of him and Giles.
- Samus Is a Girl: Berry initially assumes Giles to be female due to his vessel, even referring to him as "ma'am" before he corrects her.
- Sharing a Body: Due to being stuck in Boyfriend and Girlfriend's bodies in Downbeat's world, Bonnie and Giles often have to share control with their vessel's respective owners.
- Shout-Out:
- During "Hero's Doom", Bonnie and MX have an identical exchange to Mario and DK during their own fight in The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
MX: HAD ENOUGH?Bonnie: Not... even... close...- There's another reference to the movie when during a chase section, Lucas proposes to split up the group, in a maneuver borrowed from Mario in the film.
- Chapter 2 and 3's titles, "Familiar Surroundings and New Vessels" & "Heroine's Doom", are references to songs in Mario's Monday Night Massacre, whilst Chapter 1 references "Powerdown" from Friday Night Funkin': Mario's Madness.
- When describing the various games MX excels at, Lucas lists "that colored-card one", "that singing one", and Super Mario Bros. 1 as examples.
- Trash Talk: Bonnie's specialty, really. No matter who she's up against, godlike hedgehogs or not, she'll always say things purely to rile up her foes.
-
Tuckerization: Rather than simply being called "You", the Luigi shown in Crimson Hunter's world is named "Delta", as a reference to Anima Messorem's creator, Delta Works. - Villainous Friendship: Between Downbeat and MX, since they have similar ways of "playing" with others by trapping them in video game worlds.
- Voice Change Surprise: Upon waking up in the cursed Mario game, Bonnie is surprised to hear that her voice has been altered to the iconic plumber's, in addition to inhabiting his body.
- Voices Are Not Mental: Whilst in MX's world, Bonnie and Giles speak with the voices of Mario and Princess Peach, respectively. Notably, Bonnie's voice is described as being a mixture between Chris Pratt & Charles Martinet's performances of the character.
- Wise Beyond Their Years: Lucas is quite well-spoken for his age, likely as a result of spending over 38 years trapped in the digital world.
