Steven Alfred Gallacci (born 1955) is an American furry artist and cartoonist.
He is a pioneer of the Mature Animal Story in the Comic Book medium with his series, Albedo Anthropomorphics, which is a sophisticated Military Science Fiction series with supposedly Funny Animal characters in spirit of works like A Very British Coup. In doing so, he gave what once a purely children's fantasy in modern times a new field for adults. So much so in fact, that some say he helped to inspire the very Furry Fandom itself.
His works include:
Comic Books (sorted in chronological order):
- Bad Rubber (1983)
- Albedo: Erma Felna EDF (1983-2005)
- Albedo: Birthright (1985-?)
- Dog House (2012)
- Alone, Together (2015)
Collaborative Works
- Fusion (1987-2001/with Lois Buhalis, Larry Dixon, Lela Dowling, Phil Foglio, Kurt Hathaway, Monika Livingston, Ken Macklin, Peter Morwood, Lex Nakashima and many others)
- Tales of Beatrix Farmer (1996-1998/with Taral Wayne)
- Tales of the Fehnnik (1998/with Elin Winkler)
- Katmandu (pin-up art)
He also did the art for Albedo: The Role-Playing Game and contributed some pieces to Refractions, an official Albedo fanzine.
Tropes associated with his works:
- Action Girl: With the sole exception of Fusion and in some degree, Alone, Together when Jerom is the Deuteragonist, most of Gallacci's main protagonists in his works are females.
- Animesque: Gallacci's art is heavily inspired on Anime, being more visually notable on the latter issues of Albedo: Erma Felna EDF and Alone, Together.
- Occidental Otaku: A very downplayed example: While he does like Anime, especially classic shows like Space Battleship Yamato, Astro Boy and the like, Gallacci has stated that most of the Japanese influences on his work can be traced on the fact that many of his closest friends and associates, among them Stan Sakai, are of Japanese origin, and thus, he adopted many of those concepts in his own work.
- Science Fiction: His favorite and most known genre Gallacci had worked on, being Tales of Beatrix Farmer and Alone, Together the only exceptions on this.
