if you’re wondering why spellcheck and grammar check is worse now, it’s because they replaced it with AI! 🥰
now, instead of maintaining a comprehensive, nuanced, and human-maintained encyclopedia by which to check your document, they have switched to an AI that just compares what you’ve written to what other people write in, say, Google Docs, and use the most commonly used iteration.
ever have it change something like “all intents and purposes” to “all intensive purposes” or “should’ve” to “should of”? that’s why!
people make the same spelling and grammar mistakes so often, AI thinks that’s the way you say it because it is a PATTERN DETECTOR and cannot THINK let alone use language.

I don't mind and often enjoy seeing people plug their romance novels on Tiktok but wow I wish they didn't do this shit.
Tiktok self-censorship is leading to the slow recreation of leetspeak, which, dope, can't wait for the eventual "ur c0c|<.... 15 1|\|51d3 m3h....... 0m6..." but why can't you even say "mouth" or "screams" or "you" like how do you even determine-- I should say guess-- will limit your reach and surely this is not the best way of circumventing that

On the topic of adults remarking upon children's books (DESIGNED FOR CHILDREN); "omg why were we even allowed to read [insert book title] growing up! it was so dark when I think about it!!"
My mum read me and my younger siblings the Odyssey (topical lol) when we were elementary school age (we picked it out). I was about 10 so my younger siblings were about 8 and 6. And to be clear, this was NOT a child-friendly or abridged version.
You know what happened? I was FASCINATED by it but a bit further in my younger siblings became upset by some of the content. They wanted desperately to know what happened but it was too much for them. So they spoke up, because kids know their own limits, and said basically 'mum can we stop reading this book?'.
And my mum put down the book and said 'ok, fair' and let them choose something else. I protested of course, as I was a bit older and was handling it well and knew my own limits, but she said 'well you can take the book and read it in your spare time' and handed it over. So I read it before bed and then in the morning, I would inform my siblings what happened in the book (with a bit less emphasis on the cannibalism and bloody murder).

While I sort of get the impulse, it does always get my back up when people talk about something like Animorphs with this attitude of 'omgggg remember these books, how on EARTH were we allowed to read these books, they're so grim and dark and violent and tragic, no adults could possibly have known what they actually contained or they'd have been banned.'
And like. Allowing for the fact that there absolutely are adults who think every distressing topic ever should be banned from children's literature - they're children's books. You were allowed to read them when you were a kid because they were written for kids. Bridge to Terabithia is also a children's book. So is Where the Red Fern Grows and Old Yeller and Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry and The Giver and loads of other books that deal with heavy, difficult topics. It is appropriate and good for children to have books about these things that are tailored to their reading levels and it genuinely really bugs me when people act like they're somehow not really for kids because bad things happen in them or they end tragically.
