Today in “We’re Going to Fucking Win”, HRC’s analysis of US census data estimates that 2.34% of US adults are trans, a massive increase from Pew’s estimate of 1.6% from 2022. Note that the census data was captured from 2021-2024 by the US federal government, that minorities lie to governments about their status as minorities all the time out of fear of genocide, that by 2022 it was obvious to anyone paying attention that transphobia was reaching genocidal levels (and as an aside, this delayed my own transition), and therefore that it is extremely likely that a significant fraction of trans people were lying on their responses for 75% of the years this study went on. The actual numbers are likely significantly higher than 2.34%. We do not need to rely on allies, we are not too small of a minority to affect meaningful change, we can do this shit ourselves. There are simply too many of us.
